does your cat do this?

my cats' food & water dish are right next to each other. when i refill his water bowl and check back after awhile, there's one piece of cat food in there. i thought he was just a sloppy eater but if that was the case there'd be many more pieces in there.

it got me wondering....is he flavoring his water with cat food?

anybody else notice this about their cats?

yes. A piece of chow gets caught in their wiskers.

I don't know. It happens everyday here. Our cats are not smart.

My baby kinda does the same thing Stevecore....she tosses her food around and after every meal, there's like 7-10 pieces of food in her water. It's playtime for her, but drives me crazy....I guess they are always supposed to have clean water.
I don't think she's a sloppy eater, because she's a purebred Himy, maybe she likes it extra flavored!

Why don't you watch your cat eat next time and see if he does it again. I invariably find 1 piece of cat food in their water though...what's more is I'll fill their bowl with food first thing in the morning, and it will remain untouched until I leave the house...and even if I'm only gone for half an hour, I'll come back and the bowl will be empty. I think my cats are inviting their catty friends around for house parties while I'm out.

And what's more, they only ever pour their attention all over me when they want something, otherwise, they're like, get the fuck away from me you freak!

Odd behaviour. I wonder if they watch TV and read the paper while I'm out too...

Your cat cannot see the water. He puts the food in to ensure their is water in there and he doesn't look like a dumbass licking a dry bowl. ;)
Some cats stick their feet in the water bowl. It's all preference, but it's just to be sure you filled it and it isn't full of air.

With 6 cats here, I have 3 or 4 water bowls throughout the house. I finally got rid of the one in the laundry room with their food dish. I have several that would toss food in their water dish in there and muck it up big time.

They don't seem to mind going elsewhere for their water and I know it never has food in it.

A lot of times my cat will pick up his food a piece at a time and eat it out of his paw. Sometimes he'll also purposely drop a couple of pieces in the water, wait a few seconds, then pull them out and eat them. Like he's softening them up a bit.

And for the guy who said his cat only eats when he's gone... mine is the exact opposite! He'll only eat if someone is sitting near him. He really hates to eat alone. He's also a big-time cuddler and is convinced he must sleep on the bed "spooned" up with me.

After 13 years, I've managed to convince him he's just a small furry human like the rest of the family.

I have three dishes for kitty! Food dish and next to it is an empty dish for occasional wet food and then water dish. But my kitty is a very clean eater, I never see food out of the dish!

He is staring at a wall right now though!! Silly Kitty!

If it is a concern for you try getting a dish with higher sides. His is about 3 - 4 inches high so I geuss this eliminates mistakes.

I wish Turd would check his water first. I always feel bad cuz when I refill his bowl with fresh water, he expects it to be low like it was before and he practically drowns himself dunking his whole face in there... It's the one bummer of him having no whiskers.

Yep my cat does that also. Or else someone just doesn't clean his dish and puts water in it. He has a 2 in 1 dish with space for water and space for food.

Although in saying that. Most of the time my cat drinks out of the tap in my toilet sink. Its a pain in the ass when he is crying at 4am for a drink. I need to get up and turn the tap on for him

Himys are the coolest cats... my buddy has a couple. Im waiting to get an African Servil, hopefully it'll flavor it's water with small animals.

I want a kitty cat!

Try putting a cube of ice in the water. I had one cat that would play with it.

i read somewhere that cats tend to desire water from more intangible places than something sitting directly in front of them. guess its a challenge mixed with curiosity thing.

I heard they like it because it's running water... kind of.
I got one of those water filter thingies for the cat and he loves it.

might save me the fustrations of cleaning up after he knocks over a drinking glass that has water at the bottom of it. he sticks his paw all the way down in it and licks it off his paw...9 times out of ten he'll pull it off but sometimes the glass gets toppled.

My cat insists that I put the tap on in the bathroom sink so he can drink from it. He will even stand/sleep in the sink waiting for me to come and turn the water on for him. He also likes when I splash a bit of water on his paws so he can more easily clean himself with the fresh water.

Blue, my cat that passed away a couple of months ago, had kidney problems. He would drink water from any source he could. I always left one faucet in my bathroom dripping slowly because he liked that. He would also lick the perspiration off of glasses and cups with iced cold drinks in them.

One of my pixie bobs enjoys drinking water out of one of my bathroom sinks. The sink bowl is gently sloped and I'll put a few inches of water in it so that she can put her front paws 'by the water's edge' and drink.

Princess, my cat that died a year ago, did the kewlest thing of all. She loved milk. Anytime anyone drank a glass of milk, she'd wait until you were done then hop up to where the empty glass was sitting. She'd stick her paw down into the glass and get it wet with milk, then lick the milk off her paw. She'd do this over and over until there was nothing left in the glass. If you gave her a saucer of milk, she wouldn't touch it.

My cat bats his food into the air until one lands on his head. Then he gets up on his hind legs and twirls around like an ice skater until it falls off. All with a lit cigarette in his mouth.
