No, most times as you get more money you start going outside the US for opportunities and to protect yourself against just that. Lots of guys trade currencies and such.

Also, if you look in Forbes every year they do an article on the costs of living well and show each year's comparison prices for luxury items.

The price of big boy toys keeps skyrocketing. So the more wealthy you get you got to layout more bucks for the fun stuff.

and just as soon as you get the ultimate toy you realize there's one twice as nice and 3X the money that you just HAVE to HAVE.....

I figure you need about 10 million net worth to be feeling rich.

When you only have a million, your just worried about losing your million :)

SleazyDream 01-10-2004 09:59 PM

not much property, house, cottage, and a gravil pit.

mostly funds, rrsps, and leaveraged investment funds....

Being "rich" is relative to the company you keep. Hang out with a bunch of TGP kids, you may be rich. Hang out with the inner circle of the biz, you may be poor.

For a while $10 big ones was feeling rich. But I think that's at least doubled. Most guys I know in the 10 range aren't living very big.

Aren't the Oil guys rolling in dough again with oil at $30 a barrel?

I used to buy and sell oil properties and dealt with a lot of folks from Houston, Midland, and man those folks had some serious $ rolling in from their royalties.

that'll double again once you hit 20.

"It's NEVER enough."

I've come to realize in my own life that it's not the having but the getting that's the fun.

angelsofporn 01-10-2004 10:12 PM

Any OIL is in old money families on the other side of town.

I grew up, live , and work in new $ area that has been killed by people losing ass in tech firm jobs.

Overall the economy in Dallas is hurting. It was tied into tech firms a lot more than I ever realized.

one thing is there will always be someone with more than you. So the trick is to figure out how to be happy no matter how much wealth you have.. I am more envious of truely happy people than I am with ultra rich people. Also I have learned over the years that a lot of people spend a lot of money to look really rich and they really dont have shit and are leveraged to fuck and dont save or plan for the future its all about the look good. you would be surprised at teh Industry players who really dont have shit or dont have anywhere near the klinda money you think they do and on the flip side you would be surprised at the people who do have crazy stacks a money in the bank. Usually those who talk the most about it have less than they say.

Living in California has a lot to do with that Lars. I lived there for 16 years and no matter how much you made there were so many more making you look like squat. Of all the places I've been to LA is more into the who has more thing than anywhere else. One of the nice things about living back East is money is way more quieter here and people don't flaunt it so much like out your way.

BradShaw 01-10-2004 10:32 PM

happyness is EVERYTHING.
envy can kill you.
Be happy for other people's sucess as well as your own - i believe that's the true meaning of life.

i spend 7 years as a financial broker. it's unreal how true it is that the ones that show it don't have shit compared to the ones that don't show it.

the richest guys are often the ones you'd never suspect .... and they're almost always quite humble and nice. It's the rude ones that usually don't have shit.

Buy smaller houses closer to the average house price in your area and hire (or start) a property management company?
