Do you monitor what your employees are doing on their computer?

I?m thinking of purchasing of software like eBlaster that will send me a copy all every email, chat and keystroke typed on their computer. I don?t like to monitor people but I feel that it is something that I should be doing ?. Anyway do you monitor the people that work for you and do you tell them that they are being monitored?

If your in the US watch out for privacy laws. I would make all your employees sign a policy that says you can monitor all activity while there are working on your computers

sometimes its really worth monitoring your employees
regularly particularly productivity issues. we have shift
supervisors round the clock in search for lazy staffs.

I wouldn't do it. If they do their job then they stay, if they are slow they get kicked out. Easy. The only problem is with designers, they are hard to monitor.

If its an in house employee is there another employee that you could compare the work load too? Or does the work they are doing seem to be reasonable for a day? If the employee finds out and there is a productivity issue it will probably get worst. I don't think spyware is the way to solve it. Sit down and start talking with the guy. Tell him you are concerned with his productity. If it still continues talk to him again, this time put it in writing and give him a copy and ask him to sign it. Tell him when you are finished talking to him you want to review his productivity again in 3 weeks or whatever time length you set. Then do it again the 3rd time. Now you have everything on paper that you need to fire him if the productivity doesn't get better. But more than likely the guy will smarten up after the first time you put it in writing.

Set deadlines for him and ask him to schedule his work. Also if you are the guys boss then you should know how long it takes for him to do his work. If you don't and he knows that.

Well this is a yes and a NO matter , it depends what kind of work they do and you want to know . When i lived in the usa i did alot of networking and software stuff and had alot of people have me put it on there PC`S tho it isnt a prob long as you tell them that is a legal matter , if you hide it and not tell them you might get into trouble .
We had to put it on a couple of our pc`s here tho not all , just the ones that i know was fucking off to much and i am not the guy that likes to fire people so i put it there and track what they are doing , and made them look like the fool in front of the others . It is sad to have to do this but in some office you have to . I know in all usa goverment office all in going and out going mail is all seen before it is givin to the person or sent out

                                            just my

Sounds a little 1984. I don't believe people are motivated well by being micromanaged and monitored every second. You're just going to end up with a high turnover rate.
