ok
you need to add those
the service makes no sense if you dont support the smaller companies as those are mainly the ones who suffer downtimes

i dont need such a service to see isprime or PS never go down :winkwink:

GTS Mark 01-04-2004 07:32 AM

This is actually a really good idea choker. I have this service already with Interseerer. It e-mails me everytime my hosting goes down and gives me exact reports on how long it was down and when it came back up.

Unfortunately I have been getting more e-mails than usual recently with chooopa.

to choker :
what happens if your host is down. Do you run the program on diffrent hosts and diffrent macines ?

paul1000 01-04-2004 08:13 AM

Pardon my ignorance, but who is Choker, and why does he feel important enough to talk about himself in 3rd person ???

If my server goes down everything goes down. I have a dedicated server for this and can't afford another since this is a free program.

rjstar 01-04-2004 08:44 AM

Sounds like a pretty good idea to me, as long as it gets thru the hosts spam filters.

Fabien 01-04-2004 09:24 AM

Dude i just downloaded your TTT ?
(i got a couple of domains that i am willing to try this one...)

There is nothing about proxies ?
Like % before the trade is disable or marked as high risk etc....

Oh i'm too cheap to pay for a script hehehehe

Yes there is . Did you download the TTS system?

Fabien 01-04-2004 09:32 AM

Hummm nope ?
Where is it ?
And what's it doing ?

I got like 100 domains using a paid script and i'm f*cking tired of paying for transfers/crash etc...
I want a GOOD free script

I don't give a f*ck about sending you 1%
If i get what i want plus it's aw ay to pay for the service so....

Like the hole idea your doing, like a "big traffic system center"

the newest version of TTT is included in this package. All 5 scripts are installed at the same time, but you don't have to use them all. It just makes it more convenient if later you decide to use one of the other scripts

I can see a few possible problems with a free barebones monitoring service like this:

What happens after the network you're hosting on goes down and comes back online- Are a zillion emails in the queue waiting to go out to every host and webmaster you are monitoring?

What happens if Choker's provider has a problem getting to a particular network? Do you have anything in place to pinpoint where the real problem is, or does the host being measured get blamed for *any* type of problem on the internet between Choker's place and their own network?

To do this sort of thing right you need to be multi-homed, and preferably multihomed at a number of strategic monitoring points spread around the internet. You also need a reasonably intelligent 24/7 human staff to determine when outages are real, or just due to network problems that are unrelated to the network hosting the measured sites.

Take a look at Keynote if you want to see what a decent website performance monitoring service looks like.

As far as the individual servers or network, well if my site goes down as far as I am concerned the host is down, and it will be reflected as such. After every host has several domains and servers being monitored, the numbers will average out. No host will be 100% up.

So what if someone fucks up their own server?

What if there's a reboot, so the server can't respond?

Just thinking up all possibilities. :)

Cheers,
Matt

This system does not ping the sites it monitors like traditional monitoring services. Every 5 minutes my server contacts the plugin on the domain being monitored and retrieves all the data. So my server is not really monitoring your server. Your server is monitoring itself. My server jsut gets that data every 5 minutes and displays it all. This method takes care of most of the concerns above.

Wanna talk about getting a second machine for this program? ICQ me - I'll give you one so you can have two test locations to ensure that this service stays up and is more accurate.

Choker, man, turn on icq or hit me on 17081394. Have extra traffic for your GS3.

Spas 01-04-2004 05:55 PM

good, good

justsexxx 01-05-2004 04:59 AM

So you have to use TTT for this?

sync 01-05-2004 06:42 AM

Choker, the only problem here is how you determine if the host is up?

I would assume the script contacts your server, there is a very good chance that sometimes the route to your box will be down, resulting in "downtime" for a host when all that's happening is they can't reach your domain.

Some form of a distributed network is necessary for accurate stats. Can you please elaborate on the algorithim used to deteremine up/down times

Thanks

He raises, a valid point , if your network or server goes down, and comes back up 1 hour later, wouldn't it seem like ALL hosts suffered a 1 hour downtime?

As for the BBU service, Choker strikes again. I was in the proccess of writing a similar script for my own use and look at that. You go and make one for free. Well, I will try yours out.

As for it going down, it would be easy for choker to check his own server first by trying google.com then the hosts. If google is down the whole internet might as well be down, no?

You can't expect this much from a free service.

Servers are checked by betterbeup.com, it query PHP-plugin you instaled, which responds with details. It will only allow access from betterbeup.com.

If more than 10% servers goes down together no alerst are issued.

Some of those features may be missing in your plugin, we are constantly working on it. New version here:

No of course not, but we are going to incluse it in the TTS package so when you install it you have TTT and this plugin installed so you can use it or not

Changing the system now so if my server goes down the downtime will not be recorded against any of the monitored domains

I must be on ignore with Choker or something... Someone can repost this, he has a webpage to get the total traffic system and it doesn't have the download section working.
