Internext In Trouble??
In talking to various webmasters and companies this years internext was smaller and not as enjoyable as in the past.
1) fewer parties 2) parties had the luster of an airport smoking area except the drinks were free 3) fewer webmasters attending 4) overpriced and poor service rooms 5) seminars are repackaged with same information The show this year in my opinion was to find out who was standing after all the shit that has happened to the industry in 2003. If anything can be said - it was to meet old friends again - play some pranks - drink at the round bar/parties - hussle newcomers and floor models- but mostly as mentioned - survive any shitty conditions known to mankind to simply meet up with great people. The guess is that the smaller venues and conventions that are more affordable plus having the freedom to throw parties with style (*style being hot models rather than rippled vs. flat chips) will pick up the slack.

its funny that you should bring up such a thing casue i've been going to internext since '98 and everybody who goes to internext in las vegas twice says this about the third year they go.
the show is meant to do business and an assload of business is being done. the major point is that the big guys are realizing that putting up 100k to throw a one night party isnt worth it as it will never bring in 100k of business. if you just go to have fun, dont bitch about it. instead next year thow a party yourself and see how it goes and you will find out why the parties have gotten slimmer. i hung out with all the old schoolers, i met some of the new guys and all was cool

basically it was the same for me.. I am an old schooler too.. been going to shows for about 8 years now... still, have to meet webmasters - not too sure about hookers by the bar - all I see is content when looking around so I dont really care

This year was better than ever before as far as vegas shows go the reason there was not as many people cause most of the non industry assholes werent there and all thier friends I got more buisness done at this show in the first 5 hours than in any one full day in the past 5 years down there. The huge and wild parties were atracting the wrong element if you ask my Too many newbies asking "whats tgp traffic" "Whats an exit console" and the big guys saw that thier return on investment wasnt there. Topbucks was the best example this year instead of the content parties of the past they took a select group of people to private dinners and I would bet the roi in that is tripple one of those packed sasuage parties of the past.
Hopefully the trend continues. |
