Crocodile hunter Steve slammed over baby stunt

Crocodile hunter Steve Irwin may face a police investigation for holding his month old baby son a few feet away from the mouth of a crocodile at his Queensland zoo.

During a packed show at Irwin's Australian Zoo reptile park Irwin held his new son Bob in one arm while using his other to dangle a dead chicken in front of a 13 feet crocodile.

"He's one-month-old, so it's about time Bob got out there and did his first croc demo," the Aussie celebrity famed for his TV shows told the excited crowd with his trademark enthusiasm.

But critics branded Steve reckless.

Australian Family Association spokesman, Bill Muehlenberg said his conduct was tantamount to child abuse.

Queensland Police confirmed that they received complaints from the public about the incident.

Steve - who was recently named Queenslander of the year - defended the stunt, saying the baby was never in danger.

Steve's wife, Terri, looked on as Steve walked Bob to the crocodile pool at the Sunshine Coast wildlife park.

In an interview with an Australian newspaper, Steve defended his behaviour, saying: "This kid has to grow up to be croc savvy.

"I guess what I am doing is teaching him to be completely familiar with crocodiles. There's no way known I would ever endanger my child."

Regardless of what Steve Irwin does in life he should never have done what he did with that baby. Its fucking absurd. Look at the outcry when Michael Jackson hung his kid over the balcony.

He should be arrested for that!

That child is not in danger. When comparing this to Michael Jackson I think you all are missing one important point. Steve Irwin is not dangling his baby over the crocodile, hes not seeking attention, he's just trying to teach his son what he does for a living.

Get over it people. Steve knows what he is doing.

And Irwin isn't seeking attention in this? Why else bring your kid on camera with a croc?

Maybe your brain only processed part of this equation? If you expose a 1 month old baby to something, he'll have a better chance of getting used to it than a 10 year old child would. Thats 10 extra years to learn about his father's line of work.

He won't have nightmears if hes exposed to it on a repeated basis by someone he trusts and loves aka his father. I don't see a problem with it. Farmers have there kids on there lap on huge tractors while plowing fields so the kids get used to the noises etc. By the time the kids are 8-10 years old they are plowing fields by themselves.

A lot of Motorcycle racers started very early. Right after they were able to walk the parents put them on a bike. The early start leads to perfection down the road.

Its his kid if he wants to teach him his craft so be it.

Then the dad would take the kid into private areas and slowly show him what goes on over time. He wouldn't pull out a 1 month old in front of a crowd for a few cheers.

Well, I don't exactly agree with it but what I have seen from the guy on his shows (ok, I'm a discover channel addict) he would put his own head in the crocks mouth to save his child...and unless they have had another child recently...then that baby girl is about 5 or 6 years old now and just fine...she accompanies them on many of their journeys.

That is almost worse than what Jackson did by hanging him over the ledge.
