Catastrophe Survival Question

Another New Year passed and even with all the concerns regarding terrorism there were hundreds of thousands of people on the strip here in Vegas last night.

My question is this...let's say some sort of catastrophe hit your town whether it be act of God or man made...are you prepared? and if so how? and if not why?

I'll be honest I'm not as prepared as I should be.

We have a bunch of batteries in the house, a radio, flash lights, candles matches no first aid kit but we do have some supplies....food we have some canned foods but nothing to sustain us...water we have like 4 cases of 20 oz bottles which equals 96 bottles...but for four people that wouldn't last very long especially here during the summer.

I guess you could say I'm tempting fate...hell I don't know. I've already been through a devestating tornado...lost my residence for 6 months but it wasn't like there was no food or water supply left.

I also went through a severe winter storm in a small town of only 19,000...one that shut the power off for like 3 days and if you think that there's plenty of food at the grocery store...LOL they were almost empty by the first afternoon following the power outage....anyway just wondering.

I have a tent, sleeping bags for extreme cold if need be, batteries galore, guns, bullets (comes in handy when you have lots of wild game around), alpine stove w/ plenty of fuel (snow=water)

I hope it would be in a cold weather environment.. im not ready for the heat..

Well prepared. Learned everything from one of my grandfathers. He was the old fashioned type in upstate Pennsylvania. During the cold war days when everyone actually believed Russia would try nuking us, lots of people built shelters that could hold them over for years.

He had his setup almost like you would see in a govt shelter. Literally stocked with every kind of canned food you could imagine. Rooms full. He had huge piles of coal for fire and heating. Barrels of water. And lots of tomato sauce of course.
LOL

We've bought a few thing to prepare, but not nearly enough. If worse comes to worse, my grandfather owns nearly 100 acres and we could fish in his creek and the hunting is good. Tons of squirrels and raccoons and even some deer. Would be okay for a while, anyway. I've got lots of books on survival and I love camping and fishing. I just don't know how I'd keep my kids safe and warm yet. How could I keep little ones in a tent while I went hunting? They'd never stay in there.
