has anyone tried out IPB Public Pre-Release Development version? is it stable enough to use, its the only free one i see on that site

Nah you can still use it for free just without support and a few very small features. I just installed the lastest version on a new mainstream site about 5 or 6 days ago.

stick with the latest vB2 release.
vB3 is ass, as are all the clones.

Or go to hotscripts.com lots of stuff there
