Rear projection TV's. What do you think?
Tomorrow I'm going to order my new TV its a rear projection one and a few people have said I shouldn't get it as they suck if you do not view it straight on.
Anyone got one? What do you think of them? Here it is here: 43inches. |

Hard as hell to see in some situations, but I'm sure in a darkened home theater situation it would be a lot better.

I've got a Sony 50" Rear Projection in my living room. Its great as long as :
a. you're a good 6-8 foot from the screen when watching and b: you look at it from the same level as it is. Heres a picture on my living room, and you'll see that the screen is low, so when you're on the couch youre looking at it straight on (the taller ones I have seen are not ideal unless you're at the same height) ![]() One problem with them though, is in bright sunlight, they are not so good. The darker the room the better. However for the money you cant beat them. However, I use a 42" plasma in my office here, and the quality of that is a whole lot better. Worth spending the extra $1000 if you can afford it.

The good thing about them is they are cheap. If you have the money get a plasma.

I have a Mitsubishi 65" widescreen rear projection. You can see it pretty good at the angles still. Not near as bad as alot of the rear projection ones.

Just keep in mind its all about the incoming signal that determines the picture quality. Broadcast TV doesn't look like what you see in the stores when you get those things home unless you have an HD Receiver built-in or attached to it and you have to be on a digital HDTV provider too. DVD's will look great.
I think the new LCD's are the way to go. I've had Sony projection sets but these new flat panels are really impressive. The best one I've seen is the Hitachi Ultravision LCD set.

I've got the 52" Sony and im very pleased with it... Just make sure you got a few decent feet between the couch and the tv and you'll be fine.

Bahh..
I'd go with DirectView or LCD TV's. Rear projection TV's are not as clear and with the damn burn in issue, I wouldn't spend money on it. |

Nice TV YDG, living room looks great also.
I just got home from my uncles house and his is great. Its exact same as the one I will be ordering (if I go ahead) he bought his 2 months ago and it cost him $1800 now its reduced to $1300 so he aint very happy ![]() I sat back from the TV and the picture was great. Even better with DVD's (as someone says) and digital TV. |
