Anyone in Oregon. They are recalling meat shipments up there!

Some of the Mad Cow disease tainted meat got into the shipments to Oregon.

Be careful if you're a meat eater!!!

The grocery stores are getting recall notifications now.

The only thing I've heard is that WinCo and Fred Meier use a supplier which sometimes deals with the WA mad cow source. All that meat was immediately pulled and replaced by other sources. None of that particular cow's meat went to the human markets anyway.

How about some factual info here:

1)The cow in question was a dairy cow.
2)The most likely way to catch mad cow disease is from the protein that causes it in the cow, and is found it the brain and spinal column of the cow.
3)MOST (not all..t-bone steak being a possible exception) steaks and roasts come from the MUSCLE of the cow, so chances of the protein being there is VERY minimal.
4)Where you WOULD be most likely to catch it if it was indeed in the general food population would be things like, hamburger, hot dogs, sausage, and other rendered products like beef broth etc. Pizza toppings could be another source.
5)Most steaks come from ANGUS cows! This was not an angus cow!
6)You can't catch mad cow from dairy products like milk & cheese.
7)Symptons in humans tend to not show up for years.

So all in all..chances are VERY slim you will catch mad cow disease.

Hope you are all having a very MERRY Christmas!

Well its funny, I watched a medical scientist being interviewed on NBC and he said they aren't positive it can't be transmitted through dairy products.

In this world, is anything 100% certain?
You can find anyone to say the opposite of anything.

All I'm saying is that the "leading" & "majority" of the scientists and researchers have laid out the ground rules above..not me.

vCJD, the likely human version of BSE (likely only because noone knows 100% sure that a human eating BSE contaminated products gets vCJD, or if vCJD in general comes from BSE) has a _SERIOUSLY_ long incubation period. "a few years" is actually putting it rather low..

It can take 10 or more years to break out if you catch it and there is NO TEST.

Everyone of you getting all scared right now should really just think about it like this:

a) Just because they found one BSE cow does not mean its all over the place.
b) Your chances of eating BSE contaminated food is not higher now than it was 4 years ago.
c) The US regulations for testing meat for BSE is that it is normally only done if the cow can nolonger walk when getting slaughtered.
d) BSE can already be active just not active enough to cause the cow to not being able to walk right, thus IF BSE would be all over the US (which I _HIGHLY_ doubt) the likeliness that BSE contaminated meat got into the food market is high. The same was the case in the UK.
e) The chances of you already having vCJD is as high as you getting it now, and you won't know for the next 3-20 years anyway...
f) BSE was _HUGE_ in the UK as early is 1994 or 1995. There have been _VERY VERY VERY_ few vCJD cases in the UK.

So all you americans should just not worry really.. Everyone in europe was all scared also. NOONE talks about it now, it just died away..

That truly doesn't make any sense. This panic is bullshit. unless you are eating sweet breads or Mexican SESO burritos, you have nothing to worry about.

Remember, the Mad Cow Disease only affects the Central Nervous System of a Cow--ie., brains, spinal cord and some parts of the lower intestince.

It is VERY HARD to get JCD (human version of Mad Cow) from eating steak... unless they marinaded it in brain juice.

Also, avoid hamburgers because the patty can contain brain material.
