I would get accused of being "addicted" to my computer or the internet from my father who has in the last 10-15 years turned into the biggest codependent person I have ever encountered.

I guess when he had his own carpet business and was out laying carpet in some mall and we wouldn't see him for days on end he was addicted to "carpet."

We need to start a webmaster support group for this. When somebody has a problem with people assuming we should do what they want just because we work from home we should:

a) Have everyone email and let them know how it is.

b) Interrupt them at their job all day until they get it through their thick skull you can't work with interruptions. I don't even like working when I know I'm going to have a distraction 2 hours from now. I lose my train of thought completely.

Blah!

Right on. People act like working in porn is like living in Candyland. It's more like walking a tight rope. Shit can happen at any time. A Globill situation can happen, traffic can suddenly disappear. You constantly have to be on fucking guard; there is no flexibility with time unless it is something important.

Xtreme Ryan 12-24-2003 03:27 PM

haha yeah my girlfriend tries the same thing, all I did was wait until the next time she really wanted to go to the movie, go out for sushi, go dancing, wanted something in the body shop, blah blah blah and I said " I'd love to but you asked me to leave work early last week and my hours are down because of it, sorry." Now all I have to say when she askes me to leave is, can't gotta keep my hours up. or even better, yeah I'm down 8 hours already might as well make it ten.... hahaha people just dont realize what they're asking us to do when they want us to slack on the hours, not that we don't love them and we for sure want to spend time with them, but to spend time doing things we need money these days!

Damn...a post I can relate to. I feel your pain.

Every woman always says they are looking for someone with ambition and drive. But, what they don't seem to realize is that ambition and drive goes hand in hand with having to work....hard!

Why did they have to make woman so damn cute!

It's most tough explaining to family why i cant do things. Usually, when people give me a hard time I just explain to them that even though I dont "work for someone else" ... every month my bills get paid and the money comes from SOMEWHERE.. do the math.

That usually shuts em up =)

Thankfully I moved 70+ miles away so it's a little better, by my brother and SIL mentioned the other day that since babysitting cost $5 an hour, it sure would be nice if I babysat for them as a Christmas gift. Considering it would cost me $15+ in gas, plus 3 hours to get there and back, PLUS whatever time I have to actually babysit, it's a LOT less expensive for me to write them a damn check for $30-50 to pay for a babysitter! :thumbsup

Damn, they think that you are the errand girl just because you work from home! That's sooooo wrong.

Exactly! I can't even stand my cat interupting me. When I am designing sites I want to know that I can sit and fiddle with things and have a clear working path until I feel like stopping.

I also hate when I am sick or something and people say 'well you are lucky you work from home, then'. They don't seem to realise that every day I don't build sites I am not getting that money. The land of sick pay is such a comfortable one.

Well it's working to live and not living to work so i delegate my tasks now.

I got a great girl now who understands and never gives me any shit when it comes to work anyways.

My last girl just did not get it so BYE THEN.....

i would like to post 50 on this thread

Gals4free 12-25-2003 03:46 AM

Man man man... its like this thread sums up how i feel on "one of those days" when people just cant stop bugging you.

I even forwarded this thread by email to some of those people... lets see if it helps.. doubt it though.

BIG relieve to see im not the only one with this prob.

Interuptions are the worst.. i hate them... and yes over the last 5 months.. i do most my work after dinner from 10 pm to 4pm or so. But even i am getting fed up with that doing it month after month. So ill have to figure something. I just hate it when people bug me for small shit all through the day, thinking since i work from home / work for "my own" i can just "STOP AND DROP EVERYTHING" and do what they want me to do... its soo damn annoying.

Anyway.. could :BangBang: those people some day

That is true. In the beginning when i started out, 6-7 years ago it was a lot less work for the same kinda money... You have a point there. Back then you could take long periods off and still make a whole lot. Maybe thats were im getting my attitude from hmm. Maybe i should try and explain to them that now a days you actually have to put some work in to make money ;) But i doubt I could get that into their heads.

Fatbrain 12-25-2003 04:44 AM

There *is* hope! LOL

I went through this exact same battle for nearly 3 years, we had screaming matches, destoryed stuff, the whole nine yards.

Then she finally just got it through her fucking head that when I work, I work...Leave me alone...It's what pays our bills.

Dunno what clicked or why she finally got it but all I can say is it's finally a nice thing to work from home =)

:thumbsup
