My dog just passed away

My best friend for the past 9 years just passed away.
He has been with me since it seems forever and I was not even their with him at the end when he needed me most.
Feel so damned low, plus kids dont know yet.

well ol Bt was a scrawny lil thing when I picked him out from a dog pound as a puppy,
not an inch of pedigree in him, but he was a helluv alot of fun and faithfull like no other.

I'm so sorry about your loss. It's terrible to lose such a faithful, loving friend, but this time of the year makes it feel so much worse.

Sorry for the loss

We had a Cocket Spaniel once which we got when I was 1 month old. He did at 16,5 which is extremely old for them.

Felt like a brother died actually or something like that. I didn't know any better then that he was there...

youre gonna feel bad for a while, and probably see him out of the corner of your eyes for a while ... my advice, take it as you wish, is to cry as much as you can, remembering him, and eventually your memories will bring smiles.

the way it sounds im sure he had a great life ... thats important to remember. Kids, my best advice there is "doggie heaven"

Oh man, thats so tough. Best way to make yourself (and the kids) feel better is to go to the nearest animal shelter and adopt a dog who needs a home.
I've had dogs all my life and the best ones have been shelter dogs. They know that you saved them and will love you and thank you their whole lives.

Best way I know is to tell them that everything on earth has a time to be, and your dog's time to be with you is over. If you believe in God, then let them know that your dog is now with God and is very happy and in no pain from age or whatever anymore.

I know that's not a lot of help, but death is a part of life, and your dog had a very good and happy life with you. It's time for another dog to find that same joy and love in your home.

Sorry, I know how it feels first hand. Our Family have had German Shepherds since I was born and I still carry on the the bread.
The pic below is my little girl Cuba with her mom Bauta that passed away a few months ago. It was so F--king hard.

When my first dog died, it was not fun. I was just a kid, but to this day, it is the worst thing I ever had to go through.

Doggie heaven is good, but make sure that the kids realize he isn't coming back. Let them cry it out if they need to...

Heck, now you got me all swelled up with tears. I can't handle dog passings any more. I lost one of my closest shepherds a couple years ago to cancer. She was so human like it was scary.
I still haven't gotten over losing her. She followed my every footstep around the house and would never leave my side.

When I was 5 my grandmother's Shepherd saved my life. I was walking down the path behind my grandparents' house with Rusty. Suddenly he started acting differently. He was barking and growling at me and my grandmother throught he was rabid so she called me up onto the screened back porch. We watched as he ran down the path toward the meadow and snatched up a copperhead snake right out of the path where I had been headed and he whipped it back and forth until it was dead. At 5 years old a copperhead could have killed me.

solonline, I'm so sorry for your loss. Be sure to tell your children that your dog is even happier now than he was when he was alive. All good dogs get their reward at the "Happy Hunting Grounds".

I am sorry for your loss, losing a good friend is never easy and especially this time of year.

I have an extra if you would give her a good home... a chow semoyed mix, she is 9, we rescued her from the pound and where she is a great dog, she is very posessive and needs to be the only dog in the household...

She is half the size of my Akita and bullies the akita around all the time. Takes all her toys, will not let her eat from the bowls.. but I cannot just give her back to the pound... so if you would give her a good home... she is yours.

That really sucks mate.

I had to have my retriever put down earlier this year, he lay with his head in my lap in the back yard in his favourite spot while the vet did what had to be done. RIP to all the good and faithful doggies up there in doggy heaven.

I told the kids, my youngest just burst into tears, felt helpless.
But hugged him close. All alseep now, so I can sit and take a long drink and remember the good days we had.

my two babies are 10+ years now and I fear my boy is on his last legs as he had cancer only two years ago and I think it's back...I'm waiting until after the holidays to deal with it, I can't stand the thought of going through what you just did right now...
