If someone purchases a domain for a product that he/she knows is about to come out, is that legal? The person doesn't want to sale it but would like to promote the product. Could the domain be taken?

Depends on the company and how aggressive they are. Even though your intentions are good, their lawyers may not see it that way. Why not just ask them? -
