Delray Man Killed After Motorcycle, Buick Collide in Deerfield
DEERFIELD BEACH ? Traffic homicide detectives are investigating a fatal crash that killed a motorcyclist from Delray Beach on Monday afternoon, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.
The accident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. at the intersection of Hillsboro Boulevard. Witnesses said 56-year-old Melvin Gutmann was riding his 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle in the center lane of northbound North Federal Highway when he collided with a 1993 white Buick Century driven by 91-year-old Edward Haynes, of Boca Raton.
Deputies said the Buick crossed into Gutmann's path when he attempted a left turn onto eastbound Hillsboro Boulevard from southbound North Federal.
Gutmann, a Delray Beach security guard, was rushed to North Broward Medical Center where he later died. Haynes was not injured.
The investigation continues and charges may be forthcoming, said Liz Calzadilla, a BSO spokeswoman.
