Personally I build my own machines, but I do setup and tech alot of other peoples PC's.
Whenever I'm wiping a drive and reinstalling the OS, the first thing I do upon the completion of the installation is to install the antivirus...Then connect it to the net and download the new VDF's. That would have prevented you from having your issue Hooper. Also, when it comes to anyone I know buying proprietary machines (Dell, Gateway, Sony, Alienware...whatever), the very first thing on my agenda is to nuke the drive, make them go get a real copy of their OS (Not the proprietary advertising mess of an OS that they always send out) and install that...Then install the AV, connect to the net, update VDF's...THEN do windows updates and install proper drivers for anything. The only times I have ever seen anyone having an issue after the latter was completed was due to user idiocy. :winkwink: |

There is a separate Dell disk for reinstalling Dell-related software... I just skip it! :) |
So this is why they stopped supporting windows 98!
