Acacia Technologies Licenses Digital Media Transmission Technology to 24/7 University

Looks like they got their first university to go along with their shit. Although, I don't know how credible the University is.....

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 22, 2003--Acacia Research Corporation (Nasdaq: ACTG; CBMX) announced today that its Acacia Technologies group has entered into a License Agreement for its Digital Media Transmission ("DMT") technology with 24/7 University, Inc.
The license to 24/7 University is Acacia's first licensing agreement for its DMT technology with a company in the e-learning sector. 24/7 University offers courses containing audio/video content to corporate customers. The e-learning sector includes both for-profit companies and non-profit institutions which provide online courses for education and training.

Acacia has now entered into 108 license agreements for its DMT technology with companies in the hotel in-room entertainment, e-learning, and online music, movie, and adult entertainment industries.

24/7 University?

More hype press releases to try to keep the stock price from collapsing.

People will always sign up for this bullshit patent, when the alternative is spending $100K in court to fight it.

Acacia are bleeding cash and look about as likely to plug the hole as the captain of the Titanic. All thime the executives od Acacia are spinning the story, getting sigh ups and taking their wages.

What amazes me is the little resistance this billion dollar industry has been able to muster. I was told you were the guys, the future of porn if not the present. You were superman of the smut business.

Guess a couple of half baked attorneys from So Ca showed how big you were.

Oh yes I raised over $600 last week and nearly $900 this week in my Patent This Auction

Now lets get back to the more demanding and interesting topics, like choosing idiot of the year. Which I'll bet $200 to the cause will get more posts than this thread.

I think it shows how hard up they are for good news, when they do a press release for every license they sign.. I mean wtf is 24/7 University... is that a mail order diplomas school, or something.

You know Charly you sound almost cranky. The point of this post is not to get a high post count but to perhaps enlighten people that others are caving to the pressure from Acacia and perhaps they will step it up a bit and take some action. It's a shame that more people haven't taken action with Acacia but perhaps if they realize that it's becoming a little more widespread than just the companies in the porn industry that have signed it will give them an eye opener. You almost sound as if you have contempt for the people that keep you in business. I generally support you for what you say but I think your post made you sound a tad bit like an ass.

My best guess is it's somehow related to 7/11 University.

Well the continued ploy to keep the stock price up is working. Over a 3% jump today. Everytime the stock seems to fall they produce a feel good story and it jumps back up. I wonder how much longer this cycle will continue before the share holders realize they are playing with vaporware.

They are great at working the press releases and the other side (IMPA) doesn't seem to care about press releases.

In the end, the court case is going to be what really matters, but there really should be more "news" coming from our side to keep the public balanced.

If Acacia gets enough people scared, they are going to get more licenses and more money in their pockets to fight with. The more positive hype they make for themselves, the more it helps them.

To counter this, the IMPA should do press releases as well.

24 University provides video classes for corporations.

I talked to the CEO this morning.... it was a busines decision for them to license.. they are a small fish....and their name is being used becuase it was the first "e-learning" company.

Notice how out of the 108 companies, we only know a handful? The rest are confidential, but yet this small e-learning company's name is now being thrown out there?

It's all smoke-and-mirrors marketing tactics that are working.

Companies can't afford to defend themselves, so they settle.

I just wrote the same sentiment to Spike about PR being needed to get mainstream aware that they can join other companies in the fight, instead of standing on their own.

Court system seems to be backed up with the new 8 lawsuits filed by Acacia...still no word on the names of the 8 new defendants yet...

Guess I am on the fence with this one... I mean if they do have a legitimate claim then they should be compensated for thier work and discoveries.. Hey, this is america... and all we care about is making a buck...

but then on the other hand.. where does it stop? Who or what will crawl out of the wood work next?

Personally, and yes, I have said this before... If a company puts out a tool to do something, I purchase that tool, then I have a right to use that tool and whatever technology that goes along with it.

If I use Windows Media and Stream through Windows server, and I own both products, how the hell can a 3rd party company come in and ask me for more money in royalties?

See, to me that just does not seem right. You would think... that the people creating these tools and re-selling the technology would have to pay the royalties...

For example, if you buy a new dell... you get an operating system. It is built into your new system and Dell pays MS a royalty to resell their software. So if MS was to come back to me to try to collect for their OS would be out of the question... it has already been paid for.

Did that make sense? I know what I mean but not getting it out in words too well.

They didn't do any work and they didn't make any new discoveries and this patent does not cover anything that wasn't already in existence.

correct.. and what the USPTO approved is DIFFERENT than what Acacia is claiming.

My article titled: Beam me up Scotty! Acacia?s Patent Claims invention of Teleportation (http://www.fightthepatent.com/v2/Teleportation.html)

is a great example of what the patent says.... and what one can interpret from it.

Why would an "e-learning" company pick a name that can't be used in a URL?

How many people saw their ads and typed in:

well if they ever sign a major university then it might... MIGHT catch my attention. Actually if they signed the Clown College for Ringling Brothers it would catch my attention more than this. But, I do think it would be good for the IMPA to publicize more. It just might happen to catch someone's eye that has invested in the Internet and has plenty of moola to go around.

Has anybody contacted Dennis Rodman since he has his own websites or Snoop Dog. A couple of big names involved like that could very well help the case significantly.. hehe
