i dont need to save the movies on here, i just wanna edit a bit, maybe grab some stills, then burn to a movie cd

As for the time to convert, it wont bother me as long as its a hands-free process. I can easily let it run while i go do other stuff, i just dont wanna have to be here to hit buttons or anything.

can that be done?

thanks/

Here is your solution.

I use a variety of products both software and hardware. The Sony DV port is the way to go. One wire plugs into the DV port on your camera the other into your Sony computer with a DV (i Link). I would imagine there are converters that will enable a non Sony PC to have a DV port but I am unaware of this. BTW - The DV wire is sold seperately and generally goes for about $40. You only need one for both the video and audio.

Once you have the above setup, the program (software) to use is Pinnicle Studio 8.1 with Hollywood FX. Brain dead easy transitions, burn directly to DVD, VCD, whatever. Pinnicle controls your camera as long as it's plugged into your PC. Nice technology and really simple stuff.

Regarding Memory, it depends on what you are doing but 100 GB of storage should be sufficient if you have a DVD burner to augment with.

I prefer the higher end Sony DCR-DVD series handycams myself because they burn directly to mini DVD-R or DVD-RW

Good luck......:2 cents:
