I've been living outside of the US for nearly 5 years and I am constantly amazed by what I have learned and continue to learn as time goes by. I'm learning things about my own country's history that I wasn't taught at school.....for example, exactly WHAT the Vietnam War was all about.

For the record, I received an excellent education, was in High School in the mid '90s and had a GPA of 3.8 at graduation. In my estimation (influenced by what I have learned in the last 5 years) I SHOULD know a lot more than I do with the comparably high level of education I received.

I have a lot of knowledge. It's just knowledge about stuff that actually makes a difference in my life. Is it "smart" to know lots of facts that are of no use to anyone?

Well having knowledge about one particular subject (your own field) doesn't make you a wise man though. Everyone has knowledge of their own field, job, whatever.
