Ouch.
...btw, what's the purpose of that "pointy thing on top"
I think the project is awesome, but i want to see it realized.

OH man, I saw all the designs, and never liked any of them.
I worked at the WTC for 2 years and knew 8 people (from the Port Authority) that were killed that day. I guess I just miss the WTC that was and nothing could take it's place.

Any idiot can put up a huge tower...a tower and a building in my mind anyways are two very different things. A building has usable space that people regularily use; easily to accessible to the public.
The new WTC will only have usable space upto about the 72th floor. The sears tower has usable space well above floor 100...I believe including the top floor 110! No other building in the world even comes close.
In regards to height, the Toronto spire has every other structure beat in regards to the highest observation deck. And the total height of the Toronto spire may be close to 1776 feet already - I wouldn't be surprised if they added a longer spire to beat the new WFC.
In my view, the new WTC is going to be OK, but certainly not anything exceptional...the real excitement right now in skyscraper construction is in Asia...and I wouldn't be surprised if in the near future a building there exceeds 2000 feet and the 110 mostly usable floors of the Sears tower.

Addendum:
I just did a Google...the Toronto tower already has the new WTC beat by about 40 feet...it's 1815 feet tall...and to think that was built nearly 30 years ago...seems to me for the new WTC to really be anything, it would have to be at least 2000 feet to generate any real excitement...why visit NYC when I can visit the Toronto tower today. New WTC hahahaha welcome to 20th century again...

The one in Toronto is a not a building where people work/live...it is a poured concrete slab with an observation area near the top. While exceptional especially for its time, it cannot be compared to a building like the new WTC (which I really like).
