Online gamer in China sues over virtual theft
Gamer Sues For Return Of Stolen Virtual Weapons
A Chinese online gamer has won the rights to have the stolen virtual property which he earned through playing the multiplayer game Hongyue, or Red Moon returned. A hacker stole his 'bio-chemical weapons' along with other 'equipment'. The gamer had been playing online for two years and had spent a considerable sum on pay-as-you-go fees and after being 'cyber-burgled' asked the host company Beijing Arctic Ice Technology Development for the hackers details, which they refused. When the player took the matter to court, the company argued that since the 'property' was just computer data there was nothing to return, but the court decided that they should return everything because of security flaws in the server software. I heard about some online game where you build houses and stuff where a guy sold big houses within the game for real money. Apparently he made such a great profit that he now has 2 full time employees scouting the game for "properties".
