Install a server like Apache. I always develop and test scripts on my localhost before uploading anything.

Yea. Install apache locally and run it from localhost. You may also wanna try "cygwin" which is a unix environment on windows.

I agree you can make a multiboot and try it out.
You can even run it from a cd rom without installing anything
on your pc.

I do not use it at the moment but at the ISP I worked for
in the past we all used it. Very handy to switch between
windows and linux or vice versa without rebooting.
You can run multiple operatings ystems at the same time
with it.
