Sears Tower will still be the tallest building in the world if you don't include antenna's or any decorations on top.

They should have made it bigger than the Sears Tower in those terms.

That huge spiral thing and antenna is a waste.

It is??? Never been there. I still think it looks like I say it does. Doesn't make it bad looking per se. Unless you hate Muslims and coffee.

Actually the Petronas towers in Tawain are the tallest building in the world right now. Sears is the second.

petronis will only be the tallest (if you don't include towers, in which case, the canadian national tower in TO is the worlds tallest structure) for another few months, Taipei 101 is nearing completion and will be the tallest at 508 meters (1800+ feet)

the cool thing about the WTC design isn't the tower, but every year on 9/11 at the exact times the planes struck the towers, the way the WTC complex is set up, a "wedge of light" will pass through the courtyard at the exact time each tower was struck, this only happens on sept 11th of every year

amazing concept

The Freedom Towers, when completed in 2009, will be the tallest building in the world.

Daniel Libeskind is the architect who won the design for WTC, more info/pics can be seen at his site

Yes that is great, about the Freedom Towers. (WTC)

But we are talking about BUILDINGS not structures.

But thanks for the info, didn't know that!!

Agreed.. I saw all of the original designs that were released awhile back.. I liked those much more, they were both artistic yet practical, all had a lot of office space.. this one looks more like an abstract landmark.

yes I'm aware of that, was just throwing that in since a lot of people tend to think towers should qualify when considering tallest buildings. you should check out the link to Liebskinds site, his concept is insane, using the wall from the original WTC tower that's still standing as a backdrop to the memorial.

I cant wait to go see it, I havent been to NY since I moved down here 6 years ago, I can't even imagine the emptiness in the manhattan skyline. AaronM posted a pic of manhattan and I didn't even recognize it, and I grew up up there

Same here, I moved away 4 years ago and I can't imagine walking down Broadway without a view of the towers.

Here's a scale replica:

I think the fact a taller building will be built later is a fucking given.

And I think it does, ASS. We are talking about the new building being built in replace of the WTC, called the Freedom Towers!!!

i agree, i thought they should have rebuilt the same towers, just made them bigger as a way of saying fuck you. The twin towers were pretty much the definition of manhattan skyline...

sucks that I'll never get to see them again
