hair should be washed every 2-3 days with shampoo, rinsing it with just water is ok (won't damage) but shampooing daily can/will damage the hair

I wash mine daily too, but all the crap thats in shampoo does more damage then it does good. hair produces oils for a reason, stripping those oils daily causes damage.

depending on how often you get your hair cut, will tend to keep the tell tale signs of damaged hair hidden

and it's not the scalp that gets damaged on black people, its the actual hair, it's relatively brittle to begin with, stripping the oils makes it 10x worse and it'll tend to break off if washed too often

Modern shampoos are supposed to replace those natural oils as you wash your hair though. I've never had a problem. My hair is sexy.

But you are right that too much shampooing can cause dandruf but this is taken care of by adding oil to the hair after a shampoo. That's what the Afro-sheen stuff is for.
