when you went to social services to determine how much child support to pay, did they look at your taxes from the previous year, did they look at your bank statement? or was it something else? thanks
Single males that pay child support, I have a quick question...

My Father-in-law had a problem with his ex-wife. He paid child support directly to his ex for years without going through the court and one day his ex got a bug up her ass and went to the "Friend Of The Court". What sucks is that he had to go back and pay ALL of the money over again even though he had all of his checking records of what he paid and when, they said that it wasn't good because he didn't go through them.
I guess that if you wanna risk it to save some money, then go for it, maybe the mother of your child is decent, but if it ever ends up going through the courts, the same thing could happen to you.Comment

This is correct. Every state is different but I was informed by the state of Louisiana that any monies given directly to the mother are considered a gift, and that child support has to be processed through the social services dept.Originally posted by Slick

Best to get yourself a lawyer and find out what the rules and regs are for your locality.sig too bigComment

I'll second that info... atleast in TN. Any child support paid directly to the mother (if the state is handling your child support case) is considered a gift, even with a receipt.

Do not pay her directly even if she gives you receipts! Anything that does not go through the court trustee is considered a gift. Trust me I went to jail for not doing it that way. Like someone else said ?one day that bitch with get a stick up her as?, or a new boyfriend, and tax your ass. My advice to people reading this thread that do not have children?don?t have kids unless you are POSITIVE you are going to stay with the bitch. I have joint custody of my son and have him half of the time and I pay $520.00 a month! She has a great job and has never collected welfare! Another thing to think about is no matter if you don?t mind paying the child support is that bitch is going to be in your life till the day you die?and some days I choose death
my sons mom!

i was in a similar situation - my lawyer came up with an agreement that was suitable for both parties prior to going to court - offered her a nice lump on the front end and paying peanuts every month until the child turns 18 - plus it takes things out of the hands of judges and social service agentsOriginally posted by brizzad

I have a brother that was in that situation and he paid support every month until the slut went crazy and gave up the kids. She doesnt give him a dime and is now pregnant again by her newest ex-boyfriend.
