Hentai making isn't a viable job or passtime.

Selling it to webmasters isn't at any rate. They either pirate it and never pay or expect to get it for the same price as photo content, and like you say if you spend 4 hours on a pic you aren't going to be happy selling it for 50 cents. Not to mention the skills involved aren't trivial.

That said, plenty of artists can make a living going to the surfers themselves. Either take comissions (Plenty of fans willing to pay a fair price for a custom pic of their favourite character) or start a small paysite or sell CD collections of high
res images, or prints.
