For my Australian friends

Please take this in the good nature it is meant:

Campese takes Oxford Street 'walk of shame'

An Australian rugby legend has marched down Oxford Street carrying a sandwich board bearing the slogan "I admit, the best team won!".

Former Wallaby winger David Campese, who has been a consistent critic of the England team, walked down the central London street as a forfeit for the World Cup final result.

The idea for the walk came from bookmakers Ladbrokes, which polled rugby fans to see what forfeit they would like Campese to take up if England won the tournament.

He smiled as he made his way along the busy thoroughfare carrying the huge placard and enduring playful barracking from passing motorists who whistled and tooted their horns at him.

The former winger, who was the sport's leading international try-scorer, was even offered a morning snack - a pie made from kangaroo, mushrooms and Australian Merlot red wine - and stated: "I'll eat some humble pie later."

Campese admitted afterwards: "It was pretty scary and the most nerve-racking thing I've ever done in my life."

The former rugby player repeatedly tipped England to fail during the World Cup and said France and New Zealand would probably win.

He added: "At the end of the day England were the best team. They were very, very determined and were the best team.

"Throughout the tournament they performed when it counted."

He added: "I don't mind being proved wrong, I've always said that."

Campese's a bloody legend. It's all about the goose step.
