Halliburton (Bush/Cheney) screwing the country, probe finds

http://www.msnbc.com/news/1004142.asp?0cv=CB10

WASHINGTON, Dec. 11 ? A Pentagon investigation has found overcharging and other violations in a $15.6 billion Iraq reconstruction contract awarded to Vice President Dick Cheney?s former company, a defense official said Thursday.

AN ONGOING AUDIT of Halliburton?s Kellogg, Brown & Root subsidiary found substantial overcharging for fuel and other items, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. The problems go beyond overcharging, the official said, declining to elaborate.

The Defense Contract Audit Agency has talked with KBR executives during the audit, the official said.

A KBR spokeswoman, Patrice Mingo, did not immediately return telephone and e-mail messages seeking comment.

Democratic Reps. Henry Waxman of California and John Dingell of Michigan have accused KBR of price gouging for gasoline used in Iraq. The two congressmen said Halliburton charges the Army $2.65 a gallon for gas under a no-bid contract, while another Pentagon agency imports fuel from Kuwait to Iraq at a cost of $1.09 to $1.15 per gallon.

The Army is to open its KBR contract to competitive bidding next month.

Halliburton has denied any price gouging. The company has said it needs to charge a high price because the fuel must be delivered in a combat zone.

Several KBR workers have been killed or wounded in attacks by Iraqi insurgents.

Some of the Democratic presidential candidates have said the awarding of several no-bid contracts to Halliburton appears to be a political payoff to a firm whose executives were Bush campaign donors. Bush administration and Halliburton officials have denied politics played any role in awarding the contracts to KBR, which also has Pentagon contracts for food service and other support for troops in Iraq and other countries.

Cheney, a former defense secretary, stepped down from Halliburton when he became Bush?s running mate in 2000 and has said he played no role in contracts for his former company.

Halliburton has been a huge player in oilfield services long before Bush even thought of being president.

Reports I hear are that Haliburton was over charged by their supplier in Kuwait.

Either way, in a war zone, I'd be damned if I would supply the fuel at US pump prices, war definitely adds a risk premium to everything supplied.

You must mean when Cheney was at the helm, a time when coincidentally their government contracts doubled.

US pump prices? What the hell does that have to do with anything? Can you not read? "another Pentagon agency imports fuel from Kuwait to Iraq at a cost of $1.09 to $1.15 per gallon."

Rockdude, read the article.... I understand you are a Pro-Bush, but still...

A bit like telling an Eskimo that ice cost 4.00 a bag... LOL

FYI, Halliburton contracts are based on a cost plus system, meaning the more it cost to Halliburton, the more they make... Figures.

Don't worry, I read that article and many more.

Thunderballs, I'm afraid YOU don't have your facts straight, the cheaper oil was from Turkey, not Kuwait. I also didn't see anywhere in the "probe" where it said Bush/Cheney are screwing the country...are you sure you can read?

Who knows the details of when the two different contractors delivered the fuel, where they delivered it and the actual contract arrangements, I don't know those details.

Did Haliburton get this contract because of Cheney? Neither you nor I will ever know. I do know I have heard it asked often today what other company could have provided the services that Haliburton did, and so far no other company has been named.

I saw so many overcharges/undercharges in audits on the Alaska oilfields, and the resulting billing adjustments, this just didn't seem like such a big deal to me. There is a contract, and a reason for audits, if there was an overchage, there will be an adjustment to the bill.

I am sorry, but I have not problem with them charging $2.00 a gallon. Shit we pay damn near that here. Also it is a huge risk for them. Can you imagine what their liability insurance must be like? I wonder what each of their employees that got whacked cost the company.

Amazing how it seems so hard to read and comprehend an article....

\I myself have no problem if Halliburton gets $ 2.00 , $3.00 or even $ 10.00 a gallon... Why the fuck should I care... its you the american tax payers that are footing the bill... so if the shoe fits you, then wear it...

Independent audits, proactive action, and Presidential support for repayment kinda scuttles that theory. Another key fact is that the same report says Halliburton didn't profit at all, but rather a Kuwaiti subcontractor who may have overcharged.

did not profit!

The election is everyday every minute. Senators, Congressmen, etc. This means that all politicians will try to bring up any issue that might serve their means.

Just try to learn the real facts. It can not be done by reading the internet or the newspapers. It is difficult for any person who is not allowed to have all the real information to really know what is going on!

Everyone is dependant on what they hear and from who.

None of us (unless you are a high ranking person in the right circles of government) has a clue as to what is true.

Just make as much money as you can and buy land and hord (sp) gold or diamonds. No one know how this earth or humanities life will progress.

read carefully: cost +

Quote:
The Army Corps of Engineers told CNN Tuesday that Halliburton would be paid on a "cost plus" basis, meaning it would be reimbursed for the costs of its work and would get a certain percentage of those costs as a fee.

http://money.cnn.com/2003/03/25/news...war_contracts/
The contracts was awarded BEFORE march 25th... and the more Halliburton PAYS, the more they MAKE!

Simple no????
