LCD monitor recommendations?
Hey guys :D
I'm in the market for new monitors.. I figure if I have to stare at a screen all day, it may as well be something nice :D I'm looking at spending around $2.5kAU (1.8-1.9US i guess) I'm wondering what's best.. going insane and getting something that costs the full price range, or getting two - say like these: http://www.samsung.com/au/products/m...s/tft/191t.asp for about 2.4AU all up What're you guys running / what couldyou recommend? |

With that kind of budget I'd take a look at the Apple monitors.

samsung's got a new 21" they just brought out that actually does 1600x1200. and it's only like $1300-1500, something like that. it has the standard thin case, not the goofy silver looking shit or anything. pretty slim, i'd probably go that route.
my next choice would be a samsung 241mp... at $3700 ![]()

I wouldn't buu LCD. All LCDs I've seen were too slow, especially when scrolling text, that I couldn't work with them.
I think in quality nothing can beat high quality CRT monitor ![]() (And I don't care that LCD has better design, and also I have big enough table for CRT) |

yes, be sure to get one with a HIGH resolution, mine only goes to 1280x1024, which just isnt big enough for me sometimes.
i would get the one that has three panels that looks like a triple head, and the two side ones can fold inwards. thats some fat ass shit. i forget who makes them. |

Samsung 191t all the way.
I'm going to be picking up a second one as soon as I pay off some more credit card debt I rung up years ago.. May look at the samsung 21" as well... As for the comment about "doesn't update fast enough", that only holds true for cheapass LCD's (i.e. something you'd pay $300 at best buy for, or comes with a compaq, etc.), or older ones. Newer LCD's you can do FPS gaming on and not notice the difference at all. Response rates have dropped like a rock. -Phil

In 32 bit color mode it can't move windows nor scroll as fast as I do with mouse. I make longer movement, and I'm waiting .5 - 1.5 secont for window to arrive |

I too would like to find a good dual DVI card.
Definitely a problem. Currently have a GF4 4600, and don't want a downgrade in 3d performance.. Looking to upgrade it soon either way, but dual DVI is a requirement. -Phil

I've always been a fan of Silicon Graphics LCD's, the FP180 is good although a little small if you find that 1280 resolution doesnt always cut it, but they have a larger I believe 21" wide screen that also doubles as an LCD TV Monitor, very sweet stuff.

The only problem is the stupid non-standard digital only connection the monitor has so if you want to use the monitor with any video card besides the #9 revolution (which by today's standards sucks major balls) you need to get the multilink adaptor which is also hard to find. So you will end up shelling out an extra $450-600 for that along with the monitor. Otherwise it's a great piece, the only reason I got rid of it was that I upgraded my system and video card, got tired of running on their gay ass card. I miss it now and I may maybe pick up another one, with the multilink of course ![]() |

I ended up getting a great deal on two samsung 193T's.. They've got really thin borders, 1:700 contrast, and can swivel to portrait as well.. I'm goinna have fun with these i think ![]() ... except, the dicks at the store sent it to me via surface mail. congrats.. let's hope they like chargebacks if the screens are broken :D |

I have had a 191t Samsung for a little over a year and love it.
Samsung's come well packed and encased in styrofoam... shouldn't be a problem shipping it. They also have a 3 year warranty. If I'm not mistaken, Samsung produces all of Dell's flat panels. You made a great choice in monitors... the thin bezel is great... the pivot function is kind of nice when scrolling down long threads... perfect GFY monitor. I hope to add another Samsung 19" soon... Enjoy |

I just bought a 17" NEC multisync1765 LCD. I love it! It has a hard shiny surface (easy to clean off finger prints) and the colors are really crisp and vivid.

If you do any gaming (in addition to whatever else you do)... then HANDS DOWN get the Dell 2001FP
It's 20.1" Tilt screen (can twist the screen to portrait mode) all the other goodies... but it has a 16 ms reponse time Google for 2001FP... you'll see. I believe its a samsung screen.. could be wrong. But samsung is making the best stuff these days. Samsung is the new Sony ![]() |
