think Canadian beer is better than US, okay we own Labatt, Rolling Rock ..., so maybe I'm biast :)

But the worst beer in the world is, and you know it's more lemonade than beer: Heineken

Stella Artois ALL THE WAY

Are you on crack? Dutch beer sucks?? Ever had Hertog Jan? Het Kanon?

American beer - shit imho.

Czech beer: there are some good beers yes, but the most famous Urquell sucks big. But in all honesty it's like South American beer (much better taste of course), you can drink and drink and drink and still be sober as hell, it's so funny. Tried to have a hangover on beer one night in Prague, by 18h I began drinking my 5th liter of beer, we went out till 5 in the morning. After 4 hours of sleep: headache? No, nothing.

Back in Belgium you continue drinking large amounts, but hell I got my punishment, hangover you can't believe.

Our local microbrews are awesome (Granville Island, Shaftsbury, Okanagan Springs) as are ones from all over Canada (Big Rock, Sleemans, Alexander Keiths).

England and Ireland has us beat though.

England and Ireland specialty are the heavier, darker beers, you drink and eat at the same time. Still the biggest pils beer is Belgium's Stella Artois, the english can't handle a strong pils, so they call it Wife Beater

true, brings us the beer, was in this foreign exchange program and have to say the canadians were always fun people and beer lovers.

Libertine 12-12-2003 06:20 PM

Maybe we should set up a beer exchange or something. I certainly wouldn't mind shipping out a few cases... only problem would be legality.

Nope, should give it a try, when I'm in Holland. This summer there was a dutch girl with us at Expeditie Robinson and I asked her which dutch beers she liked: Palm, Leffe, Hoegaarden, ...

euh those are all Belgian Beers :1orglaugh

But at least agree that Heineken sucks big time

I'll be there on Monday. :rasta

I'd love a tour of Amsterdam's finest.... beer that is. :glugglug

gregtx 12-12-2003 06:23 PM

maybe someone should offer a blind taste testing at internext...

line up cups of beer... in solid cups... so you can only taste and smell them...

and see who the winner really is... b/c I bet most of you could not pick 6 out of 6 beers blindly...

Heineken sucks. Not as bad as Oranjeboom, but pretty bad indeed.

As for other beers: with regards to witbier, Korenwolf actually beats Hoegaarden, and Hertog Jan is definitely one of the best "normal" pilseners. If you like it strong, Het Kanon is pretty good, as are Hertog Jan Grand Prestige and Hertog Jan Grand Cru :glugglug

maxdaname 12-12-2003 06:33 PM

beer sux!
nothing beats vodka!:thumbsup

That's true, my favorite beer is Boddingtons. Stella is also awesome though :)

As far as Canadian beer goes, Granville Island Maple Ale is excellent, and my favorite is Alexander Keiths.

I agree with Belgian beer (triple bock is a little too much, though), followed by Germany of course. England wasn't bad, a little too bitter for my taste, but there is a lot to be said for the dark irish beers on tap. I just can't drink it all night.

But I will say, sometimes there is nothing like an ice cold american beer! Amber bock ain't bad either.

Head 12-12-2003 07:30 PM

Canadian beer good but German beer is better! :glugglug

Palm was my choice for every day drinking, especially on tap in the pubs. When I was living in Germany, there was a large distributer on the Belgian/German border to stock up Leffe and Palm. A regular stop on every road trip.

Most American Beer is made from Rice. Basically its the cheapest beer a person can drink as far as quality goes.

Now grab a German Beer say oh...

Spaten Pill's. Now thats a Beer.

I dunno how you can drink either - Canadian beer is stronger than American which tastes like water, but there's no body in Canadian beer, give me Belgian beer any day of the week.

which Belgian beers do you have over in Canada?
Probably Stella Artois (the Artois brewery is like 1 km from were I live), Hoegaarden, Leffe. Maybe Duvel, Delirium Tremens?
If you're into heavier beers: Westmalle, Westvleteren, Bush (12%), Brugse Triple, Chimay, Corsendonk, Grimbergen, Orval, Rochefort.

oh a German beer, I really like: Erdinger weissbier
