ultimate video editting setup?

What outboard gear and software (pc) do you recommend
for video editting? Budget is not an issue (although it should be reasonable).

And whats the best hardware/convertor to hookup an XL1S ?

How do the pro's work it?

Premiere is a resource hog, but I love it.

How about instead of throwing up a stupid laffer you offer up some more advice, fucktard?

the type of camera you have has no bearing on the edit suite .. first you need to figure out your present needs and future needs .. only from that point can you determine what type of edit suite would best suit you ..

you did ask about hardware/software and bot about platforms right ?
Cus Premier is only a platform .. nothing more, nothing less .. it will do what hundreds of other edit platforms will ..

when determining your needs take these things into consideration ... Timeline becomes a huge factor when deciding as does, format , output, real time transitions, Real time editing, Compatible codecs, plug in's, Effects generators .... etc ..

what is it you want to do .. Cut exsiting clips? Shoot and Simple straight Cuts for short vids? Long format edits for video or broadcast realise? DVD's or just plain ol' wmv's ..

All these things I have mention will have a bearing on the type of system you need ...

i'd have to disagree -- a bit -- with vidvicious. Premiere is most than editing...I can convert my edited files to a zillion different formats, and with plug-ins, a zillion more. I've never used other editing software, only heard stuff, and from what I've heard, I stick with Adobe....

I shoot miniDV. I like it. But again, I dunno any different, really....

And whatever you do, get a 3 chip camera.

without a real time card .. premier is nothing but an edit platform ... and can be used on many different systems .. I'm not puttin gdone premier .. Personally I love it .. I'm just making the seperation between an edit platform and an edit suite .. anyone with a P2 can run some version of premier ...

basicly i want to fuck around. so there is no proffesional goal (yet)
just want to get things going and play with all aspects. serious aspects to get used to it without any of the usual 'startup' concessions.

At this stage i have a decent cam that meets my requirements
now i need the gear and software to get some action out of it.

So basicly i want the perfect setting to fuck around and dont want
to do addiotional purchases/replacements by the time i get serious. always hate that. Does that make sense?

Simple then .. a p4 with min of 512 ram and 120 drive .. Premier would be good .. but i fyou don't know editing a goodstarter program is Videowave or Veags 4 ..

A p4 should have a good graphics card .. and IEE 6 pin in (fire wire)

Premeire lets me spit it out in MPEG1, 2, DVD, CVD, SVCD, DivX, and a bunch of other formats....I've tweeked it, but I'm always learning...my partner last night set me up with DivX 4.12 as a matter of fact....

I think this is a good thread...not much on this stuff, and it's fucking tricky

I know about the Mac thing, too...and people who are editing swear by Mac...but I just can't do it.

No way. My shit does the job just fine, and while Premiere does lock up from time to time, I'm still hanging with it...

actually the mac platform .. Final cut pro .. is an awsome system .. has much more real time features then premier. such as disolves and wipes ... A g4 is a great set up .. add a RTMAC card and you're spiting out broadcast quality

Vegas is just as powerful as premiere, it renders faster and it's easier to use. We don't do incredible movie quality effects so it's really more important to use something that's easy to learn and master.

I use a dual xeon 2.4 with 1.5 GB & scsi 320

If you use the right encoders, you can really speed things up with multiple processors. Or even for codecs like xvid (that only uses one) . . I render like 5 - 6 scenes at once. If you set your processor affinity correctly, it is quite productive.

I have a supermicro X5DA8 . . . a dual processor box is cheaper than you'd think . .

Oh . .and for an editing package. . (especially for porn vids), Vegas can't be beat because of the little resources (in comparison to premier) it uses . . not to mention it's ability to run multiple instances flawlesly.

firewire into premiere ... chop and render ... bada bing.

i recommend huffyyuv codec for avi ... and a couple big fast hard drives wouldnt hurt. I switched my memory to rambus and that speeds up the rendering a bit ...

What happens when you use Divx and most of your surfers dont have the codec installed? Think about it they get a trial membership say 5 days spend 1 day trying to figure out why the movies dont work another day trying to get support a third day getting the codec installed and their 4th day canceling and going someplace they dont have to upgrade their system to have access to movies.just my

Yeah, but watch out when DivX contact you asking for licencing fees for using their codecs. They wanted a stupid amount of money depending on how many members we had etc etc, we stopped using divx right after that

like vidvicious sad

stick to something like good matrox video card and premiere

you will have REAL TIME video effects in premiere
(with normal video cards you will always i mean ALWAYS have NOT REAL TIME video effects - delay will only depend on your computer speed)

and with proper video card you can even make tapes ready for tv stations (BETA) offcourse you will need betavideorecorder for this
