Sorry to hear that RRRED I just talked to my grandfather a couple days ago and he started crying on the phone because he is about ready to pass on as well. He is having strokes almost daily and he wants to go already.

It's a good place to be, things like this do happen and the only way to look at it is that as people grow old they pass on so the next generation (your children) can grow older and have kids of their own. One generation is replaced by the next.

Instead of mourning the loss and focusing on the loss itself, tell your family that they need to remember the good times, and that grandpa had a full and wonderfull life... :2 cents:

That what does not kill me, only makes me stronger.

Dad died @ 8
Step Dad died @ 13
Grandfather died on Fater's day
Mom Died on Oct 30, 2001
Step Granny died while I was @ internext last year 2003
Grandma (Dad's side) died when I was on Vacation in Hawaii 2003
Grandma (Mom's side) died April 30, 2003 - while I held her hand.

Death either brings you down - or it motivates you. Think of what they would have wanted for you and not about your pain and they have not died in Vain. Mourning is necessary, and not to be avoided no matter how old you are - VERY IMPORTANT!!! But if there is re-incarnation, it is in the passing along of the love that those before left us with that flames eternal. Just my experience and :2 cents:

Sorry to hear about this RRED. My grandpa died just 3 days before my b-day when I was a kid and now I look at it as a perfect time to remember how much I loved him. Kids are tough.

Dravyk 12-10-2003 05:39 PM

So very sorry to hear of your loss, Rrred. :(

As for the kids, I would suggest telling them now. Children are more resilient than we are.

JDog 12-10-2003 05:41 PM

He's in a better place now! It's hard to tell kids things like this. I lost my grandfather 4 years ago, and it was the hardest lost I ever had. :( I'm still not over it!

Meloman 12-10-2003 07:48 PM

My condolences RRRed.

Bell 12-10-2003 07:54 PM

oh Rrred... so sorry to hear that...
that's such a hard thing to go through...
prayers of strength to you and yours...
and I agree with Drav - tell the kids now...

now is further away from Christmas than if you waited
a week... if you put up a manger scene for Christmas
maybe a little picture of grandpa near the angel in the
manger display...
