Quite a bit, actually. :)

Gotta have balance...between the layout, the graphics and the text.....

I agree. Plus study the 'formulas" between text/content/layout and particular traffic sources

I usually use the text what the sponsor I'm promoting :-)

Here's a tip:

Study the sponsor and answer these questions:

What is the offer?
What's so different about the offer?
How do they deliver or make good on the offer?

Now take your notes and boil it down to WHAT are the surfers' needs and plug in the answers that you got from your research.

Now write out the answers and keep boiling it down using catch phrases. It must be IMMEDIATE and IN YOUR FACE and

Has a "call to action"

The next important thing to discuss re text... what is more effective...text on graphics or plain text. My bet would be for the latter. However, text does need some graphic "eye catchers" to fully maximize its efficacy.
I remember making some $$$ off plain text with flashing arrows.

Seems like most webmasters are concerned with layout. But it's TEXT that closes the deal. How much time and effort do you put into text writing?

Problem with the pirate approach is how do you know a particular site's text links convert as opposed to another text site?

Is this related to your thread earlier re TGP gallery tracking and statistical "modeling"?

I think text is really important. It's what informs the surfer/potential member and can also be used to provoke their fantasies so that they join. I also try never to be misleading and if anything downplay some of the positives so that when they join they get more than what they thought they had paid for.
