Largest markup on retail items

Anyone know what type of (mainstream) products, in general or specificly, tend to have the highest margin, between cost and sale price?

Fuel nozzles for oil furnaces.

When I worked for an oil company, we would purchase these at ,79$ and resale to customers at 14,00$

Hey, juicy, got many computer graphics books? Wanna give me a discount? LOL

I've spent WAY too much on computer graphics books in the last few months. It's my passions, but they cost me an arm and a leg!

I went to buy blades for my tractor to do my fields and each blade was 29.00$ That was in may. when I went back to get new ones in Nov. they were 14.99$ I asked why and they said the price goes down in the winter time. The guy then told me that they pay about 1.75$ for each balde when they buy over 300.

Well if I am using 6 in a year, this guy is making bank... I have one of the smallest ranches in the area.

I used to work at Wal-Mart for 7 years, I was department manager over both hardware, then for a few years in electronics, so I know what has high markup in those areas.

First off, the highest marked up items in the department are coaxial cables and stuff in that category like cable splitters and other stuff. Secondly, phone accessories like phone line, cordless phone batteries etc... All of that stuff has like an 80-95% markup.

Items like computers, tvs, game systems, and stereos all have a pretty low markup, usually 10-20%, computers being under 10%. Video games carry a 30-35% markup.

Like others say, clothing also carries a HUGE markup

Electronics with high profit margin:

Car stereo and related
Wires, cabling etc to connect everything, if the cables cost you $30 the cost on those was less than $1.50

Porn still amazes me in it's markup. Something that costs $2 can be sold for $39.95 and rebill for several months without you having to do jack shit. Gotta love it.

800% markup? That's nothing. The markup of Xanax from the raw materials to how much is sells for is 569,958%

Granted, that doesn't include the cost of R&D, but it's still a massive increase.
