3g phones and the uk law

3g phones take vid clips

An interesting thought. These phones record video (moving film), and are designed to send this to others.

Now under UK law you are not allowed to distribute film to others unless its been through the film censors.

Thus everyone who uses a 3g phone will be committing an offence.

Any thoughts?????
-------------------------------------
Cinematograph Act 1952
- no exhibition of film without certificate.

----------------------------

I wonder if those involved with 3g phones have thought about this.

Now if 3g phones become popular and people start using video in large amounts (as they now do with text), this I would have thought could create a legal argument towards licencing DVD and so on.

odd. streaming video on phones is here in the states but it still has flaws. luckily we don't have any laws like that (that i'm aware of) but i did see a special on some news show about a guy who was going around taking pictures of random people and putting them on his web page. a few people tried to sue him but their cases were thrown out because they were in public. technology and laws that were made years ago just don't go hand in hand.

So if you want to show friends your holiday movie I have to ask the British Board of Film Classification? Or to switch on my webcam?

BTW don't get"Three"

The technology they are using will not be compatible with Voda/Orange/T-Moble when they bring theirs out.

Three will only be able to make video calls to Three phones

All the others can do cross network video

Yes, anything you film in the UK has to go through the film sensor board - unless its educational.

Even weding films should do.

When the law was past, no one had vid cams.

Unlike vid films, a clip on 3g phones could be past onto a million people in a few hours (just look at the star wars clip). That makes things different due to the fact thats mass publication.

But then you're taking things too literally at the moment. In theory they can still prosecute a taxi in London for not carrying a bale of hay as far as I know. Fortunately most of the time the enforcement of the law stays on this side of sensible. Mind you, it's always intresting when it doesn't and someone in the police/CPS does get a bit carried away.

On the odd occassion they are stupid good legal help will usually get it overturned in court anyway, by being able to prove that a certain law is now outdated and not really applicable to today.
