Yeah, that, and I'd know breaking up was something she wanted. As it is, she's upset that we're not together, but too scared of being hurt again to get back together. I messed up.

I see.. and I think you'd let her go. Remember the wise words of an old man?

Alas it's true, I was gone here and there
and made myself a motley to the view,
gored my own mind, sold cheap what is most dear
and made old objections of affections new.

:)

Well it still kinda applies in reverse.

You obviously felt strong enough that it wasn't working to break it off.
Now you are probably regretting it because you were so used to being around her.

Go with your first instinct.
Move on , time heals all etc etc

It'd certainly be the easy thing to do! :)

maxdaname 12-05-2003 01:45 PM

Wow, that's pretty deep for GFY. :thumbsup

When I originally told her we couldn't be friends anymore...it was so we could both heal, because I doubted things would be better between us. Since then, I changed my mentality: Instead of keeping the philosophy I've always had: "things are going bad, how do I get out?", I for once want to be "things are going bad, how do we fix it?"

She came over not too long ago...she missed me and she was upset I had dating other girls...it gave me a glimmer that maybe we have a chance...

...dammit

I don't know.. but if she is a webmaster and does not know this girl? nah, it's bad, I agree.

I think you should make a trip or something, new environment, experience, etc., etc. and busy yourself.

SomeCreep 12-05-2003 02:37 PM

nothing, whole point of an "ex" is you dont have to spend money on her anymore

Paul -C- 12-05-2003 02:56 PM

Don't get her anything too expensive or she'll think you're trying to buy her back.

A nice bottle of wine would be cool, then make sure she invites you over to drink it ;)

It would have to be something that only she could enjoy by herself. I'm not buying her a bottle of wine so she can enjoy it with someone else. Good thought, though. Probably flowers and and taking her out for sushi...

phogirl69 12-05-2003 10:14 PM

So basically you cheated on her??

basschick 12-05-2003 10:34 PM

sounds like you're one of those many men who aren't happy with what they have, but miss it when it's gone and wish they had it when they don't.

otherwise maybe you should offer to go to couples counseling with her. people need to communicate and trust each other - and after there have been problems, having a third party moderate can really help keep blame from being pointed.

my actual opinion - you are who you are, and that wasn't someone who wanted to settle for her. she was unhappy with the way you undervalued her. not a good relationship.

i'm friends with my first husband, but it took YEARS before we were on good enough terms to handle that - and more years before he's stop mooning over me.

if you like her, send her something from amazon.com.

phogirl69 12-05-2003 10:38 PM

Where you just "flirtatious" or did you actually cheat on her, as in have sexual contact with someone else? If someone cheated on me I wouldn't want anything from them for my birthday or EVER.

austinth 12-05-2003 10:40 PM

Give her the video tape of you and your new and improved girlfriend going at it.

Well, sounds like love to me. Welcome to the club, I'm in a similar jam except we've been married for 13 years with 2 kids, been separated for over a year, still waiting for the other to file the papers lol. Tried to make up a few times in this year only to fight even harder.

She dropped off the kids today and I wanted to just give her a hug, that became painfully impossible and her smell drove me crazy. Fucking women..

Good luck bro :thumbsup

Sorry I didn't reply sooner...been away from my computer.

No, I never cheated on her. Ever. For whatever reason, girls would come up to me, even when I was with my gf, and flirt with me. I would respond to it, I guess, and flirt back, although I looked at it like I was just being polite continuing the conversation. In reality, it was flirting. I dated a girl after my ex who did the same thing...that made me realize how it can be taken...not cool when you're in a relationship.

I feel ya', dude. I've been trying to avoid giving my ex a hug, but sometimes can't... Then it's those full minute hugs that just kill me.

Good luck to you too, buddy. :thumbsup

It's more complicated than that, but yeah...the grass is always greener... And I had a commitment problem. Now, I realize the grass was pretty green before, and I'm not as afraid to commit. Too little, too late, I suppose.
