Is there a site that lists adopt a family type organizations by area? It's been a good year and I would like to adopt a family this Christmas. Are there any other legit charities that you guys would recommend donating to? I'd really prefer something in my area but I suppose it doesn't really matter.

I have looked at the Salvation Army but honestly their bell ringing pisses me off. Nothing like annoying people out of their money. What I am really looking for is a huge directory of sites that do this kind of thing. You can search by location. I checked it out last year but like a moron I didn't bookmark it.
