A friend of mine called very upset she bought a laptop three months ago. She was checking her email, it crashed and now all she gets is the welcome screen and she cant get into safe mode. THe os is XP , she called tech for the lap top and they said she would have to reformat ,they didnt know what the problem was. The only chance she has of keeping her data is if someone has a full copy of xp so it can repair it self, I have a xp cd. Anyone had this problem and if so what was fix you used?

Thank you but when she hits f8 she doesnt get :

When you restart Windows XP and the Welcome screen is displayed, your computer may stop responding: neither the keyboard nor the mouse work. When you restart your computer again using the F8 key, you may receive the following error message:

System restart has been paused:

Continue with system restart.
Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu.

As the article states she gets do you want to start in safe mode? which it doesnt do anything. I guess I will have to wait til she gets in town to play with it.
