Finally, the final results of a Hun listing

Okay, it's taken me several days to go through the stats after I got listed on thehun.net

    It's not what you'ld believe.

Actually you figure getting a listing by the top site in the universe would be a windfall. A spectacular moment that could make a guy.

Well, just the opposite happened. Not the Hun's fault, all he did was listed a gallery of mine he liked. That first day I got more hits in one day than I get in two months.

For 2 months straight my stats were going up fast. Doubling income, tripling income etc. Then as soon as the Hun listed me stats dropped like a rock. It's very, very, weird. Normally my site just sells itself. Oddly enough the less traffic I get the more signups I get. It's freakin' weird.

Some of you already know and have been helping me pour through the data to see what exactly happened. Some suprising things have come to the fore.

One of the affiliates I used on the gallery suddenly went silent. Weird. I found out later why. I must've gotten more emails in two days asking if anything converted than I get emails from family asking how I've been.

What I've learned here is that submitting a gallery to a big site like The Hun's is a specialized action that calls for being on one's toes. A gallery submitted to The Hun's is not the same gallery you submit to Joe's Discount TGP (that's a joke, if there really is one you know what I mean )

So having gone over the data the next time I try to submit to a big site I'll know how and what to do.

Quite the enlightening and adventurous experience to say the least!

No offence but your tour could do with some work. Your content's great but the tour's just all over the place and doesn't really sell.

The tour has always worked for me. Sure I can tighten it up but that ain't the reason. If the tour didn't work it never would have.

I said at the top of the thread that stats dropped. So no + in the signups department. BW was handled by my host who's the coolest host in the world. In this business your host is like your 'Scotty' on Star Trek.

I'm not trying to be critical but in my experience Hun traffic is a lot tougher and in some ways a lot more general than that of smaller tgps. If you've bene getting traffic from smaller, less surfer friendly or more niched tgps then converting the traffic is going to take different methods.

You've got a lot of stuff that's not directly related to selling the site, the AVS script right on the front page, and you're not really leading the surfer by the hand through to the join action. If you are going to be going after traffic from larger TGPs then IMHO it would be worth your while designing a tour from scratch and testing, testing, testing. If you didn't make any joins then it's a markteting error rather than the traffic, because the Hun's traffic can convert great given the right sales pitch.

So, explain this stuff to us. Your post just led me in a circle, I was hoping to gain some kind of insight or get some tips on making the most of the traffic I recieve from a major TGP, but I am just confused. Explain what was bad about being listed on The Hun.

those alt tags on your main page are painful if you pause the mouse on the images for a second.

It needs a few more keywords.

Who said anything was 'bad' about being listed on The Hun??

Maybe that's something you extrapolated out of thin air.

Being listed isn't bad, it's great! But in my case it was so unexpected, (after 8 years of trying ) and my page wasn't optimized for the traffic that was sent. So now I know what I need to do to optimize it.

In this business people have a childish vindictive attitude that they set up stuff just to want to 'get back' at somebody. I don't fall for that.

So the biggest 'tip' you were looking for is ask somebody and make sure you optimize correctly and be forgiving for mistakes and errors. Spite, vindictiveness aren't good business bedfellows.
