Quick photoshop help needed!

Okay, so I am working on a site...it's almost done.

My question is, when I am ready to slice it all up...what is better? Small slices or bigger ones? I want to make sure it loads quick...but I am not sure if the way you slice it has anything to do with it.

Thanks!!!

Shannon

I would go with less slices, Normally if it's not tweaked up IE can only download 3 files simultaneously from the same server.. I think you should use 6 or 9 slices at most...

imho it depends on the content of the slice....

If there are large quantities of the original psp with little color gradation make them a large gif, and use your jpg slices for areas where there is much gradation for ex skin tones.

This is of couse if you hand slice, (which i prefer) as you can make these determinatins yourself....

Just be sure to include height and width tags and alt tags irregardless of which you choose to maximize download...also try to minimize your nested tables

darnit is right. any place you can slice out that is mostly or all a solid color, and can be converted to GIF will speed the site. of course, you're supposed to have this in mind when designing it to begin with, too. Also, if there are horizontal lines, and no verticals, it compresses better in gif format.

actually thats the server config that limits the amount of files downloaded simultaneously

Are you sure? Actually it was 2 files at a monent.

I've just tried that with zend.com to make sure again before posting and it works like a charm.. I was locked with 2 downloads until I've tweaked the IE..

In Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings
On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:

"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=Dword:0000000a
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=Dword:0000000a

You can change 0000000a to any other value as long as it's hexadecimal.
