and good for you GoLiaT

I worked in the corporate world for years (27+) and one day the company was sold and I and a lot of others were out on our asses.

if it wasn't for what I had saved in a 401k and a pension from the previous owners of the company I would have been in deep shit.

but with all this saved I told them go fuck yourself and I retired!

sorry to hear that
but nice you had some money saved
thats why i am happy our government pays out the pensions here
sounds a bit risky having a company as guarantee for the funds..

Retire fund? I used to put in $100... but that was 2 years ago. Now I can eat and pay rent and have some entertainment. No retire fund now.

10% of everything I earn I save... I deposit my checks at the teller then the first thing I do when I get home is calculate 10% and buy mutual funds online at my bank's site. It adds up quick

Start asap. I started when I was 20 and now I am 27. I didn't have much then but it adds up. And as long as things keep going for me I will be ok when retirement comes around.

At 22 you can afford to be aggressive with your money. Be aggressive now and turn conservative at a later age.

Start now! The sooner you start the sooner you retire.
Also remember: the best time to plant an oak tree was 20 years ago the second best time is now.

Very smart! It's hard to do that if you leave the money in their awhile. The sooner the better.

I put away every cent that isn't eaten up by the basics such as mortgage, utilities and food.

Currently that leaves zero dollars for my retirement LOL. I really need a 4th job or I will end up being a 75 year old with no job opportunites except for prostitution. Hrm, I wonder how much the elderly get for their services.

I try to put away $100-$400 per month. I have a "Roth IRA" setup at Edward Jones. I just started doing it a couple of months ago, I'm up to like $1200 so far. I'm gonna start putting more in there, but there's a few other financial matters that I need to put some money on first, once that's done, I hope to put a lot more into it.
