problem with my dedicated server
Hi recently I move to a dedicated server and i'am having problems installing rpm packages. The support team of the server is very uneficcient and they are unable to fix the problems I have. Basiqly I'am trying to install some rpm php-mysql and glibc 2.32 and all I received is segmentation faults messages. I want to know if anybody here is a programer and has the ability of fix that problems so I can install the rpms packages I need. It looks something in my server is broken and want to know if it can be fixed without reinstalling everything again. The server has red hat 7.3
Anybody here can help me? |

It's most likely hardware.

Install your packages using binaries instead of RPM's.

This really does sound rather like a hardware problem to me, probably a memory problem, could well be a CPU problem.
You can use memtest86 to test the memory, this is something that starts at boot time in place of an operating system and will test the whole memory for errors, it may take some time. You can either start it from lilo (or other boot loader), or you should be able to make it into a boot disk and test it from there. In any case, random things segfaulting without apparent reason or connection sounds very very much like a hardware problem. Apart from the memory one of the first things I would check is to see if the CPU heatsink/fan is still intact and functioning. Hot CPUs are not happy CPUs ![]()

You could have a library conflict or something similar that is causing things to seg fault, its not necessarily the hardware but that is a possiblity.
Hit me up on ICQ: 4930562 maybe I can help you out |

Man, I know it sucks, but if the hosting company can't/won't help you with something this basic, you really ought to look at cutting your losses. I'd keep after them to figure out what their issue is, whether they want some hourly fee for support, or if they just don't have a clue. Inevitably more difficult problems will arise, and you're going to be screwed if they're clueless.

You need to consider you are getting what you paid for. Paying someone everytime problems arise with your server is not going to be cost effective in the long run.
You have wasted more than 3 days dealing with this in order to save a 100 bucks, that you will most likely end up spending on someone qualified to help you now or in the future. We won't even begin to discuss lost/unrealized revenue from this failing project and projects you could be focusing on if youo were not stuck on this . . . good luck! |
