Get a good stable version of 98.. OR go out and pick up some more memory, in which case I'd suggest running Win2000 or 2002. Memory for that computer should be dirt cheap.

I got it for free on my work you know, my brother is a captain on a ship (well not really a captain he's my 20 year old twinbrother) I've bought him a good pc at home a while ago (amd xp 2000+ 512mb ram etc) But now I wanna give him one for on his ship, just for some music, word documents and maybe some little games.

98SE is the best choice. Even with more memory ih has too weak CPU for w2k IMHO

windows 2003 or windows 2000, 2003 uses the least amount of memory i think, and if he doesn't want all that shit pre installed like "aol compuserve juno " all that unnescessory shit that will prolly lag that computer bad i would get windows 2003 server

Are you reading what you type? its a p2 200mhz! Just the bootup would used all the memory then you would be hitting the swap drive which causes further lag

Win98 with all the service packs... 95 had screwups that 98 fixed (as well as Gates fixes things)... 95 had some techno glitches that would swallow ram whole and 98 used the swap file a little better.

128 megs of RAM is about all a 200 would use before it'd be a waste.

Install Win98(SE), hell I ran it just fine on my old 486 dx 100 with 32mb, slower than a Pentium 75mhz. I wouldn't even consider Win2000, why wait twice as long for it to boot when you can do almost everything with 98. Plus 2k won't play games very well.

Here's the link to the Windows 2003 Server eval kit. It's good for 180 days and then you've got to pay to upgrade. Not bad.
