About the size of the continental US. It's obviously nowhere near being close to the size of Canada. I can't imagine that it is about the same size as a state as they are relatively small.

I think the reason people seem to think it's so small is because of map projections making it look so much smaller, but that's just a distortion from taking a 3D globe and projecting it onto a 2D surface. Northern Canada "shrinks" as well on maps of this kind so it would stand to reason Australia would do the same.

All of Europe is 3,618,770 sqmiles or 9,372,571 sq kilometers (roughly the size of Canada) - Germany alone is 356,958 sq kilometres = Central Europe would be roughly equal to AUS.
