confirmed - google has made updates to fuck up seos

http://www.searchengineguide.com/llo.../1125_bl1.html

technical analysis
With the huge number of postings on all the various forums, concerning this update, most people don't know where to start looking for information about the recent Google update. The following is an attempt to put down rationally (I hope) most of the information that is known and the (unproven) theories behind the update algo.

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/11/20/te...4bNOfb6Zvt6okA

NY Times article
But lately a new strategy has emerged that is raising questions about business ethics and the nature of online competition. Because search engines like Google give weight to sites that are linked to other sites, companies set up networks, creating or encouraging others to create large numbers of sites that sell the same products and then linking them together. If the strategy works, what the searcher sees is a list of links that lead back to the same product or company.

As a cosumer, I tend to click somewhere around page 5-10, because I always got the same junks in the top pages, and some sites are barely related to my search words.

I might not be a typical consumer, but I think more and more people are doing this--I found my personal site listed at about page 17 (under key word: asian girls) in google got more and more traffic.

The key to the information age - is information.

I stopped writing my homepage for Google many moons ago.

I own enough generic domains to create a "Google bomb" (search this in Google) ... but I choose not to.

Google needs real information - more then I need Google.

Bow to the power of a Master Blogger.

This is pretty bad for now, but where there's an algo there's a flaw to exploit remember that.

Exactly ...
where there is an alogorithm - there is a way to exploit that.

It's a new filter. That's all really. Learn how to avoid tripping it, and you're king again.

..And just to add to the title of this thread. Google did not put the new filter up to fuck around with SEO's. In fact, they aren't saying why they are doing it at all, but we all know it's got something to do with inflating revenues for the big IPO. You can't blame them really.

Finding out how to avoid tripping those damn filters and keeping slight relevance might be tougher than it usually was

Google has way too much power now

It's really not as tough as you make it seem. Just play with some pages, run tests, research the new filter, and I'm more than sure you'll find what you can and cannot do anymore. Seriously, the last filter was a fucking joke, and when it was put into place, everyone went running around saying "this is the end". It's not the end, it's nowhere near it. Do your research, that's all there is to it.

Yeah it was obvious this round of updates was to serverly weed out keyword spammers and help make everything more mainstream for the IPO.

I don't mind - wishing held rank in a lot of keywords and went up in some as well.

One thing I did notice though is the severe degrading of relevancy of some terms. Looking up some things makes you wonder how the hell the site was even LISTED in this term let alone #2 in it.

It just means finding new ways to sneak under the radar. PR link swaps are still powerful.
