Timmins and Botbyl, known online as "noweb4u" and "itszer0" respectively, are also part of the Michigan 2600 scene -- an informal collection of technology geeks that meet, blog, eat pizza and attend hacker conventions together, but generally balk at penetrating systems or otherwise committing felonies.

Read the article.

In a rare wireless hacking prosecution, federal officials this week accused two Michigan men of repeatedly cracking the Lowe's chain of home improvement stores' nationwide network from a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix parked outside a suburban Detroit store.

Lowe's network security team poured over log files and determined that the intruders had installed a virtual wiretap in a program that handles credit card transactions for all the Lowe's stores nationwide -- though the altered program had collected only six credit card numbers.

They returned at least six times over the following two weeks and used the network to access store networks at seven other Lowe's locations around the country, in Kansas, North Carolina, Kentucky, South Dakota, Florida, and two stores in California. The intruders deployed unspecified hacking software at some of the stores, in once case crashing the point of sale terminals at a Lowe's in Long Beach, California, according to the affidavit.

Fuck em.

Yes.

And for good reason. I would guess that 50% of the people here have trojans and other hackerware/spyware surreptitiously installed on their machines. And that's giving a lot of credit to the GFY'ers. In the 'normal world' I would bet the % of infected computers is much higher.

While 170 years is crazy, the penalty does need to be something substantial imo.
15-20 years IMO.

This hacking crap, virus/worm crap just does not affect one person but truly affects us all...and that all as we continue this full court press towards globalization only gets bigger.

Imagine the amount of money that masterblaster worm cost businesses and individuals in America alone. Now multiply that across the world with every other user affected by it.

Not only did it cost those with infected systems, but it cost anyone and everyone doing business on the net, which then in turn *think trickle down* affected anyone and everyone those on the net do business with that aren't on the net.

These little punk ass kids need to learn that they just can't do something and end up costing peopl worldwide millions or even hundreds of millions of dollars without there being dire consequences.

We've had people try to steal our database on sites in the past as we use our own merchant proccessing, but no luck.

Our admin watches our network like a hawk and all billing data is stored on an encrypted drive.
