I like the sound of that one a lot better than the one they have slated to start in California in January.

if there is a "Do Not Spam List" that email marketers need to use to clean their email lists we will see a shitload MORE spam. Now every person that can send an email will use the Do Not Spam list to mail.

Line up the spammers. lol More sooner than later even offshore spammers will get tracked and popped. I hope they strip them of every nickel and belonging to their names.

Offshore spam can be shutdown too , people need to be more pro-active , instead of just throwing their hands in the air and saying "oh well "

Everyone has an uplink and if people dont do anything about it , go up the ladder, soon you will find these "offshore" spammers will be blacklisted from higher up.

I know its time consuming but, if every week you shutdown one ( and i mean really follow thru and shut it down ) we will start to see a decrease in email spam.

Start setting limits. Make your sponsors/friends use subject line passwords and filter everything else out. It also helps in knowing who is selling your address.

I give each of my email contacts personal subject line passwords and if they dont use them they dont get thru, sure it takes a bit of time , but i have cut down my personal spam by 99%. I have some old email accounts on yahoo and such that fill to the limit with spam in less than 24 hours.

Dealing drugs is illegal too. Still happens... still profitable as ever too War on spam will go about the same as the war on drugs. They will go after the biggest operations they can to get the big kills and have their hands full trying to tame all of the thousands of relentless small time ones.

You are grade A classic fucking too funny to be true. You go on and on about your anti-spam crusade. (cry me a river btw). And the first sponsor listed in your sig is notorious for having spammers under their program (I, unlike you, have no problem with that). Hypocrisy at it's best. Fucking tool.

(edit)I looked at the rest of the sponsors on your little list. A few others are big fans of the spam boat too. Practice what you preach.(/edit)

I'm an anti-spammer and if this is "Can-Spam" the Senate passed it is actually NOT a good thing. It really did not have any bite at all, and required users to opt-out of lists they never opted-in to.

It prevents individuals from suing spammers and INVALIDATES the stronger state laws that have some real penalties... like California's for example.

And guess who is lobbying for the passage of this weak bill?
The Direct Marketing Association is for it! That should tell you something. From what I've read it could make a bad situation worse.

We need to look at the bill in its final form before making a decision...

Final HOUSE bill - did this one pass the senate, or is this just going to make for another bullshit disclaimer on the bottom of spam discussing a law passed by congress (but not the house) a number of years about (1619, I think it was).

The house and congress each pass laws like shit out of a monkey with the runs, but unless both of them sign off and pass the combined bill, and get it signed by the president, it is just so much monkey shit on paper.

In the end, SMTP is at fault for spam, and it should be addressed and fixed. Until that happens, all the laws in the US will just move the spammers to another country. Big fat hairy deal.

The sad part about Spam is that the reason for having spam at all is that there are morons who buy stuff advertised in spam.

That's something law makers forget all the time.

The most effective way to shut down spam is to outlaw buying stuff that is advertised in it. If noone buys spam simply goes away ;) but unforunately this is not possible to archive

No, sad to say to saythat is not so. If the headers are not forged and a working opt-out is provided, we are going to spend the entire time trying to "opt-out" of things, from "companies" that change from one minute to the next.

IMHO , this bill has essentially legalized spam and I suggest everyone get some good filtering like "http://spampal.org" because it is going to get worse.

No where do I see how they are going to hit foreign based companies on foreign servers, so until we get cooperation from the fucktard governements in China and Brazil, this seems like an unworkable solution.

I would expect to see a bigger role for the blocklists, like Spamcop, Spamhaus, and SPEWS. Expect to see them move from the ISP level down to the workstation level to filter out the crap.
