I optimize for 800x600. Still a significant amount of ppl that use that res. And if it looks Good in 800x600, it will look acceptable in higher res. But if it looks good at 1024x768, it will look like pure crap in 800x600.

There are a lot of surfers still at 800x600 although 1024x768 is picking up as more and more people are upgrading their machines. I still can't imagine life at anything less than 1600x1200 though
I made my new site for 1024x768 and it was doing fine. Once a buddy told me he had to scroll sideways I redid it and it EXPLODED! So my lesson was to always design for 8x6.
