"Reality" tours vs. "old style" tours...

I had a long conversation last night with another designer about why "reality" tours (ala www.milfhunter.com) convert TGP/MGP style traffic so well vs. the "old style" tours (ala www.karasxxx.com) which convert banner traffic and such so well. We seemed to settle on a philosophy as to why but I'm interested in hearing some additional thoughts so here I am.

What we came up with was that TGP/MGP surfers are much more likely to be "experienced" surfers who have probably tried a paysite or two before. They are likely less swayed by the sales text in a design and also are more likely to be jaded as to not believeing they will actually get what the "old style" tour promises. With a "reality" tour you show them so many samples that they pretty much know what to expect and can get hooked on wanting to see more of one or two of those samples.

With the "old style" tour you take a more newbie surfer and essentially market them into joining by explaining how great the site is.

I've been messing with ways to morph the two styles into one hybrid that accomplishes both feats so guys don't have to run around making two tours or more to handle both types of traffic. Some of the ideas have done well, some need tqeaking still. Anyone else messing around with trying to find one look that works for such totally different traffic types?

Thanks, Mark. Very informative post. I guess the Old Tours still have a place in adult promotions -- ie., marketed to newer users or in differing promo channels (not tgps or web-based communications... email maybe?).
