Create your own email blacklist and end spam ...

I know this concept isn't new, but it seems everybody is always complaining about spam so I figured I would let some of the unfortunate souls in on getting rid of it for good. I get zero spam.

1) Pick a domain name you own.

2) Don't setup the wildcard on it.

3) EVERY site or person you give an email to, give them a unique email address. Just remember to add it into you incoming list. Takes me 2 seconds as long as I have an open shell.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
vi /etc/mail/virtualusertable

* Add the seeded address *

makemap -v hash /etc/mail/virtusertable < /etc/mail/virtusertable 1>/dev/null 2>&1
----------------------------------------------------------------------

4) When spam arrives, not only can you kill it for good, you know the perpetrator.

5) Lastly, don't post your email address on your website. Use a script and make the user submit a form that emails you.

Questions?

Hmm, your mention of wildcards gave me an idea... would it be possible to set up a DNS wildcard for that domain, so you send email to [email protected] ? That way you don't even need to add in the individual addresses.

That might be... 70-80% effective... But you'd constantly be playing catchup. There's more ways to get added to databases than posting your email address on a website. Unless you are actively scanning for directory harvest attacks, the spammers will be a couple steps ahead.

What you want is to combine a few proven techniques such as bayes analysis/keywords/dcc/honeypots/etc, if you really want to keep spam away.

If you're interested I can point you at a company that does gateway virus scanning right, with a 99.9% spam stopping guarantee, with no false positives.

Works 100% for me. I only have 1 email address that my FRIENDS have and spammers haven't gotten wise to it yet.
