Ten Commandments Judge Removed From Bench

Ten Commandments Judge Removed From Bench

Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore was removed from office Thursday for refusing to obey a federal court order to move his Ten Commandments monument from the rotunda of the state courthouse.

The state Court of the Judiciary unanimously imposed the harshest penalty possible after a one-day trial in which Moore said his refusal was a moral and lawful acknowledgment of God. Prosecutors said Moore's defiance, left unchecked, would harm the judicial system.

Presiding Judge William Thompson said the nine-member court had no choice in its decision after Moore willfully and publicly ignored the federal court order. "The chief justice placed himself above the law," Thompson said.

In closing arguments, Assistant Attorney General John Gibbs said Moore's public refusal to obey a court order "undercuts the entire workings of the judicial system."

"What message does that send to the public, to other litigants? The message it sends is: If you don't like a court order, you don't have to follow it," he said.

Good news for anyone running porn sites in Alabama. Imagine this guy hearing your appeal?

"We, the people of the State of Alabama, in order to establish justice, insure domestic tranquillity, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, invoking the favor and guidance of Almighty God, do ordain and establish the following Constitution and form of government for the State of Alabama"

There will come a time that you will fear the power of out of control federal judges.

Hypocricy?

Do you think judges who don't uphold or obey the law should be allowed to be judges?

Should police officers also be allowed to make up whatever laws they want?

yeah, but a judge shouldn't be allowed to ignore a court order. it shows that although he requires we follow HIS orders, HE feels the system does not apply to him.

not a good message...

"One God" - This is the problem.

There are many millions of people in the US, they have many hundreds if not thousands of "Gods".

This monument was a representation of only one.

Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists all have very powerful lobbies.

Ok, you're right. The U.S. government does acknowledge the existence of God. And while they're at it, they should put Santa on five dollar bills, and the Tooth Fairy on tens. And murderers should be sentenced to life in a dark cell with the Boogie Man.

Well.. in that it was federal..

I wonder why they don't go after the Supreme Court to have them remove the carving of Moses holding the ten commandments..

It's in the gable of the USSC east pediment .. dead center..

Gotta love the irony..

In a thousand years, same problem, if the most popular God is "God B", "God A" will be taken away and all of those buildings will be adorned with images and depictions that associate with "God B".

Whatever controls the masses.

You can't pick and choose your battles if you don't support everyones rights who will defend yours?

How about my right to go to public buildings without having somebody's superstitions shoved in my face?

He is a judge, not an individual person fighting for free speech.

He has every right to fight for free speech when he is not on the bench.

He was breaking the laws that he was supposed to uphold, that's why he was fired.

They had no other option than to fire him or admit that laws in the U.S. mean nothing if you don't agree with them.

What if every judge and cop in the country only enforced the laws they personally agreed with?

What if every citizen only obeyed the laws they agree with.

That would be the break down of society.

He should have quit as a judge before trying to push his religion on people who were legally required to appear before him. He refused to quit, and he refused to obey a court order, so they fired him.

Anyone who supports this religious fanatic activist as a judge is crazy.

It's his platform. Plain and simple. He's far more interested in a run for governor, or maybe senator, than he is that statue. It started with a little plaque in the county courtroom where he was a Circuit Judge, which he used to win the Chief Justice race, and it's progressed to this. Anyone who knows him, has seen this coming for many, many years. Before and during his run, he always swore that plaque would hang in his courtroom at the Capitol, if he won the election. That never happened. He's causing and using this whole mess to further his political career. If that weren't the case, then maybe I could at least respect what he's doing, even though I still wouldn't agree with it.

All that's left is for him to go out and stand on the steps of the University of Alabama. Same shit, different day.

Ok, let me back up a little for you...

My tax dollars pay his check in exchange for him to uphold the law. My tax dollars pay for the building that is used to uphold the law. The source of funds that covered the rock inside the building is irrelevent.

If I were a judge, and I spent my own money to buy a pentagram monument to put in the middle of the publicly funded courthouse, would you support me and my rights?
